Japanese American Memorial

I went to the Japanese American Memorial. I was really interested in learning about Japanese Americans, so I was glad that I got to go there. I learned and felt many things. I thought learning about the Japanese Americans are essential point because I am Japanese and I have been in America. Visiting the Japanese American Memorial was an unforgettable experience. First, I found a poem which I felt strong emotions about. The poem reads,

“Going home, feeling cheated. Gripping my daughter’s hand. I tell her we’re leaving. Without emotion.” When I read this poem, I imaged the situation and then I almost cried. The author couldn’t feel anything because of leaving house. I have never experienced such a depressing moment. However, I think “without emotion” is the saddest feeling more than feeling something such as sad or dejected. I also imagined leaving my own house and going to camp would be hard things to do. I felt pain in my heart. Second, on the stone, it shows a scene where the boy is leaving home as a soldier and his mother is sending him off to the army. I thought his mother felt sad when saying goodbye to her son. His mother looked at her son with sad-looking eyes. But the boy did not look at his mother. He looked like he was obliged to go to the army. I had a feeling that the boy looked that way because he had already prepared for going to the army but he looked unhappy, sad and dejected. When I saw the monuments, I could understand the stone and what it was trying to tell and show me. For example, his strong decision to enter the army and about his mother’s feeling. I was sad but also I was impressed by his brave act. In conclusion, I was really thankful to visit Portland, especially, Japanese American Memorial. I thought that learning the history of Japanese Americans are totally essential to studying English and to live here, because if I can get the information and knowledge about Japanese Americas, the conversation between Americans, other people and I will become more of a substantial talk. In addition, I might get various opinions and ideas. For me, it is difficult to talk about World War II, but it is great opportunity and experience to talk about when visiting Japanese American Memorial, so I want to discuss Japanese Americans and war with America people and other people.

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American Chisato Fujii             When I saw this poem, I felt strong feeling of this poet like “I am an American,” and I also felt this poet’s voice like “Why am I not treated as an American?” I’ve never lived in this period of world war Ⅱ , and of course, I’ve never experienced this suffering and war, but I could feel people’s voice of this period thanks to this poet. Without these Japanese Americans’ voices, I couldn’t feel and understand their feeling and thought. When I understand this poem’s meaning, this poem made me sad, but I also understood Japanese Americans were proud of themselves in the middle of the war. I respect them and am proud.

I really wanted to go there and I was able to have a various experiences at the Grand Canyon. In addition, I ate a ton of southwest food and spicy food during this trip. This trip was most memorable for me for three reason for that. Amazing Grand Canyon First, I had many most amazing memories at the Grand Canyon. I really wanted to go to  the Grand Canyon, so my dreams came true. We went to the Mather point at first. That was my first time to see the Grand Canyon. I was really surprised and impressed. It was like a picture, so I was really confused when I was saw that. Then I went to the next point to see the sunset. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous. I was really impressed. The next day, I woke up early. I went to Yaki point to see the sunrise with teachers. That day was really cold and windy, so whe...
