Superior Portland trip

The Extension students went on the Portland trip from November 13th to 16th and we had a totally great time, I could experience a lot of precious things and I felt tons of wounderful things. Portland was extremely nice place, it became my favorite place, because the street is a little nostalgic and beautiful, in addition there is no tax! The three places especially were most impressive for me.

my memory of Portland trip
Among of all of those bright places we visited, Japanese-American Memorial was the most touching place for me. There were some stones that is engraved the poem which Japanese-American write during World Warat the camp. I read all of them and I was moved. One of them is “Sure, I go to school same as you I’m American”. I thought it was written by child who younger than me. I learned that the war take away natural life. I should thank for doing what I want to do. We don’t have to repeat same mistake again. I was able to think about their life and my life deeply. It became valuable experience, as usual I learn about war in Japan, but I learn about that and I could visit memorial in the U.S. It was a rare opportunity.

Next,  we had pleasant time at Columbia Basin College. We met students who study Japanese. They said that to learn Japanese is quite difficult. I can sympathize with her about that, because I think to learn English is also difficult. Even though, our feeling is same! She likes Japanese, I like English. And then I noticed important things. I could understand her Japanese even grammar is wrong and pronunciation is different as me. She did not afraid of being mistakes. I sometimes hesitate to make mistakes, but it doesn’t matter. They know, English is second language for me, so to challenge speaking English is important. I became positive thinking, I don’t have to speak English perfectly. Sometimes I also can’t speak Japanese perfectly I have a lot of Japanese vocabulary which I don’t know. International exchange is absolutely helpful for me.

Finally, Multnomah Falls was entirely an outstanding place. It was my first time to see waterfall. Unfortunately, it snowed, so we couldn’t hike, but it is dignified. A fall had some snow so it looked beautiful. I want to know how it made, such a gorgeous waterfall. It was beyond my imagination. It looked like power spot. I can’t imagine the total height of the waterfall is 189 meters. It is longer than my height. I felt power of the nature.

As shown above, I had fully valuable time. I want visit this superb Portland again. There is a lot of what I want to tell too much and does not write it in here. My world became bigger and bigger through Portland trip. At Japanese-American Memorial, I learned the feeling of Japanese-American through the poem which was written by them. I encouraged about my study by Columbia Basin College students. I  could see quite beautiful scenery at Multnomah Falls. I want thank for an encounter during this trip.

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American Chisato Fujii             When I saw this poem, I felt strong feeling of this poet like “I am an American,” and I also felt this poet’s voice like “Why am I not treated as an American?” I’ve never lived in this period of world war Ⅱ , and of course, I’ve never experienced this suffering and war, but I could feel people’s voice of this period thanks to this poet. Without these Japanese Americans’ voices, I couldn’t feel and understand their feeling and thought. When I understand this poem’s meaning, this poem made me sad, but I also understood Japanese Americans were proud of themselves in the middle of the war. I respect them and am proud.

Memorable Southwest Trip

I had an absolutely amazing time through on the southwest trip with fabulous teachers and friends for one week.  I went to so many special places such as the Grand Canyon. I really wanted to go there and I was able to have a various experiences at the Grand Canyon. In addition, I ate a ton of southwest food and spicy food during this trip. This trip was most memorable for me for three reason for that. Amazing Grand Canyon First, I had many most amazing memories at the Grand Canyon. I really wanted to go to  the Grand Canyon, so my dreams came true. We went to the Mather point at first. That was my first time to see the Grand Canyon. I was really surprised and impressed. It was like a picture, so I was really confused when I was saw that. Then I went to the next point to see the sunset. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous. I was really impressed. The next day, I woke up early. I went to Yaki point to see the sunrise with teachers. That day was really cold and windy, so whe...
