Adventure in Portland

Wonderful Portland with my beautiful friends
Poem from Japanese American Memorial
I had a wonderful time druing the 4 days in the beautiful city of Portland. It was my first time to go there. This trip gave me a lot of experiences, and taught me American culture, history and Japanese history. I had acquired great experiences through visiting CBC (Colombia Basin Collage), Japanese American memorial, and the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center.

First, I had a really great time at CBC. Accidently, I have met some of the students because I taught them about Japanese culture last semester in Japanese Culture Center. I didn’t know that the students are from CBC. I really surprised when I saw the students. In the class, I talked a lot with my partner. He is really interested in Japan because he likes anime in Japan. Japanese Anime is very popular in America. He knows about Japanese Anime more than me. I talked about my presentation topic which is sister city of Spokane. He asked me many questions about it. For example, when I talked about Nishinomiya city, he asked me “when did Nishinomiya become city?” This question was unexpected to me. I couldn’t answer the question. American people’s point of view is totally different from Japanese so it was very helpful for me. I spent a wonderful time there.

Next, I went to interesting Japanese American memorial. In America, there are many memorials, especially in Washington D.C. Also, in the Oregon, there is Japanese American memorial to not forget about mistake during the World War Ⅱ. There are many poems there. My favorite poem is "Going home,Feeling cheated,Gripping my daughter hand,I tell her we’re leaving. Without emotion" From the poem, I could feel Japanese American’s sadness, anger and excitement to go to their hometown. I thought that we shouldn't forget the people who are Japanese American at the time. Shamefully, I didn’t know that the fact which is about interments camp. It was good opportunity to know about it through the Portland trip. I became interested in Japanese culture since I learn American culture here.

Finally, I had a great time in Columbia Gorge Discovery Center. Before I went there, I learned about Lewis and Clark. Their life was extremely hard during the exploration. In the museum, there are many replicas which are used by them. The man who works in the museum showed the gun, and he shot it. It was very noisy and the gun has extremely strong destructive power. I was really surprised at it. The gun was heavy. I imagined the hunting that the people have to hold the heavy gun and shoot the animals. It must be absolutely difficult. I could feel “Real life” 200 years ago. At the same time, I proud of Luwis and Clark becasue they discovered today's America.

In conclusion, this trip was absolutely wonderful trip. Through the 4 days, I could learn not only American history but also Japanese history. Moreover, I had a time to talk about my presentation topics with American students. It was a great experience for me. Finally, through visiting meseums I could learn about American history. Through these things, I had a great time in the beautiful city of Portland.

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American Chisato Fujii             When I saw this poem, I felt strong feeling of this poet like “I am an American,” and I also felt this poet’s voice like “Why am I not treated as an American?” I’ve never lived in this period of world war Ⅱ , and of course, I’ve never experienced this suffering and war, but I could feel people’s voice of this period thanks to this poet. Without these Japanese Americans’ voices, I couldn’t feel and understand their feeling and thought. When I understand this poem’s meaning, this poem made me sad, but I also understood Japanese Americans were proud of themselves in the middle of the war. I respect them and am proud.

Memorable Southwest Trip

I had an absolutely amazing time through on the southwest trip with fabulous teachers and friends for one week.  I went to so many special places such as the Grand Canyon. I really wanted to go there and I was able to have a various experiences at the Grand Canyon. In addition, I ate a ton of southwest food and spicy food during this trip. This trip was most memorable for me for three reason for that. Amazing Grand Canyon First, I had many most amazing memories at the Grand Canyon. I really wanted to go to  the Grand Canyon, so my dreams came true. We went to the Mather point at first. That was my first time to see the Grand Canyon. I was really surprised and impressed. It was like a picture, so I was really confused when I was saw that. Then I went to the next point to see the sunset. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous. I was really impressed. The next day, I woke up early. I went to Yaki point to see the sunrise with teachers. That day was really cold and windy, so whe...
