This Portland Trip was
awesome because I could enjoy this trip with my friends and teachers. I was
affected by many places where I visited and people who I met such as a student
of Columbia Basin College and a Reed College staff. Also, I didn’t meet any
people at Japanese-American Memorial, however, there are many stones about
Japanese Americans.
First, I was affected
by some Columbia Basin College students because they really like Japan and
Japanese culture. They listened to our presentations seriously. Therefore I could explain
about my topic well. Also, I got lots of information from my partner. It was
difficult for him to teach me about my topic, however, he tried to teach something
about my topic. Therefore, I thought I need to practice more and feel a little bit
pressure.
Second, I was affected
by Reed College because the system of Reed College is nice and interesting. This
college doesn’t have grades in classes. Therefore, they can enjoy studying. Also,
they write a research paper for graduate. I visited the library, there were a
lot of research papers. These are very nice and have a lot of information. I thought I
have to research more. The college is one teacher for ten students. Therefore,
it is small, however they can enjoy the class with many discussion. I was also
affected by Reed College staff who taught us the system of Reed College. She
was a student of this college, and now she is a staff of this college. She is so
nice because she came from Middle East, however, when I saw her, I thought she was American. This college is one of
highest colleges for international students. Therefore it is very hard to enter
this college. I think she worked very hard, and get a high TOEFLscore.
However, she enjoyed everything. I thought to enjoy is the most important thing
to improve English skills. Therefore, I was affected by
her.
Finally, I was
affected by Japanese-American Memorial because there are 13 stones about history
of the Issei and their descendants.
On each stone, there is a poem about their sadness. I read Weed flower which is a novel about Japanese American during World War Ⅱ. Therefore I know about it a little bit. Two of the stones showed hardships,
emotion, and experience. These were very sad, however, we had to know how war
makes people sad. Therefore, I was affected by this
memorial.
In conclusion, I was affected by three things and people. This trip was suitable for our last trip because I learned very important things about international students and Japanese-American. I think I was changed a little. I have one month until I leave here. Therefore I have to study hard. I can do it because these people could do it. This trip was awesome.
