Inconceivable shopping

I have many hobbies such as listening to music, going to movie, talking with my friends, especially going shopping. I often go shopping in Japan, actually I'm enjoying going shopping in America. I have experienced unbelievable shopping.

First, the size is huge in the stores. When I went to Walmart for the first time, I was surprised that the shopping cart is twice the size of one in Japan. I thought I could get on the cart. I couldn't move it very well. I also noticed that we put goods in a shopping cart directly in America, but Japanese often use a shopping basket. We put our shopping basket in our shopping cart, and then we put goods in our shopping basket or we use our shopping basket only. Of course, I was surprised size of food, too. I'm sure that I can't see such big size in Japan. I have never seen such big milk, yogurt, pizza, snacks and so on in Japan. I can share these big food with my roommate, and we can use a shopping cart together.

Second, I can't believe that merchandise is sometimes broken. When I went to a clothes shop, I found a ring that I wanted to buy. I took it in my hand, but it was broken. There was not enough accessories on the ring. They had come off the ring. I tried to find another one, but I couldn't find one. I thought it couldn't be helped, but when I went to the different shop. I experienced the same things again. I found a pair of sandals, but the mate had no button. I could not wear it. If a broken part is small, I can understand, however these broken things had big faults. In Japan, it doesn't happen.

Finally, I often see joyful signs. For example, I see "Buy one, Get one Free." It's a good sale. I can sense it's profitable. In Japan, a sale isn't held many times. I want this system in Japan, but I have to be careful about this sign, or I will buy many goods even if they are not a necessity.

I experience many incredible things when shopping in Spokane. They sometimes confuse me, but I can enjoy them. I want to go shopping more and experience a lot of new things here.

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American Chisato Fujii             When I saw this poem, I felt strong feeling of this poet like “I am an American,” and I also felt this poet’s voice like “Why am I not treated as an American?” I’ve never lived in this period of world war Ⅱ , and of course, I’ve never experienced this suffering and war, but I could feel people’s voice of this period thanks to this poet. Without these Japanese Americans’ voices, I couldn’t feel and understand their feeling and thought. When I understand this poem’s meaning, this poem made me sad, but I also understood Japanese Americans were proud of themselves in the middle of the war. I respect them and am proud.

My Unbelievable Southwest Trip

I experienced a lot of amazing things for seven days with my absolutely wonderful teachers and friends from October 15-21 and learned a lot of Southwest culture, history, and nature. For example, we went to about 12 museums and facilities, such as the Pueblo Cultural Center, the University of Mexico, and some churches in New Mexico and Arizona. Therefore, I kept busy on the trip, but it became something I have never experienced because everything I saw was new to me. There are three things that especially impressed me. First, I was attracted to the buildings of New Mexico. These were really different from Spokane, Boston, or Washington D.C. For example, I went to Old Town in Albuquerque. Then I noticed that almost all the buildings were made of adobe. Adobe means mud brick in Spanish, so the buildings I saw were brown and some parts were air blue. I felt comfortable there. I also saw a plaza and a church which were adobe style buildings. The plaza is the most central part in Old T...
