I had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with my host family. It was the first time I spent such a great traditional holiday. I spent one night and found a new enjoyable celebration in America. In particular, I enjoyed a celebration and Black Friday with many people. What I experienced on that day was new to me.
My host family took me to their friend’s house which is made of wood and looked so cute. There were about 17 people to celebrate Thanksgiving Day together. All of them were very friendly to me and I tried to speak to them. I had a big cuisine and ate too much food, for example, turkey, stuffing and vegetables. My host family’s friend, Bettie, told me one American traditional thing. It was that people put olives on their fingers and eat olives with fingers. She let me do that and they did that after me. It was so funny and I could learn one of the American traditions.
Next, I went downtown for Black Friday and I got in a carriage pulled by horses. Besides us, there was another family. The vehicle went around one block near River Park Square. The ringing bell attached with the horses seemed to welcome Christmas. In the vehicle, we sang Christmas songs but unfortunately I didn’t know the lyrics in English, so I was just singing pieces of these songs softly. During the ride, I rethought how I liked American as we enjoyed each other’s company.
In addition, I really enjoyed shopping on Black Friday because I’ve never gone shopping with my host family. I was so excited and Bettie stayed with me and helped me. I can’t choose clothes quickly, so she let me try clothes on, when I was at a loss whether to buy or not. She started talking with a clerk and they recommended a cute dress to me. The dress was the reasonable price; at last, I bought it. That was a good deal. To Bettie, it was more enjoyable shopping with me rather than with her son. She was supposed to be my mom and it was comfortable for us to go shopping together.
As you can see, I really got a fabulous memory even though I had a short time with my host family. To meet a lot of people helped me enjoy myself and improve my English skill. Thanks to God, I enjoyed this holiday and learning American culture. I appreciate God for everything.
