Death

There are about 7 billion people all over the world. About 130 million are born a year and about 60 million die a year. What can we do every day to finish our lives happily? If a valuable person dies suddenly, what do we think and what should we do? Who can decide the limit of life?

First, people may suddenly die. I heard bad news two weeks ago. It was shocking for me and I started to think about death, especially that a valuable person suddenly died. I thought how important it is to live carefully day by day and not to have regrects. If your friend whom you hurt dies, you can’t talk with her at all and you can’t apologize to her. You will regret it your whole life. We don’t have to think about death every day, but we have to know we can’t say tomorrow will certainly come. There are limits for our lives, so I think to smile every day and to enjoy life is very important to live happily.

Second, can we take lives by law? My friend’s conversation topic was capital punishment. We discussed it, but I haven’t answered whether it is good or not. People who are put to death committed murder. It means they took lives intentionally, but should we take the lives of them? Also, who can decide to take lives? There are no answers. If we don’t do capital punishment, we have to pay money for them to live. We can spend this money for children to live happily. On the other hand, if we do capital punishment, it means one life is taken. Also, murderers can stop thinking about their crimes. We thought which will be harder : to live longer or die soon? It may be harder to live longer in a jail because they are always watched what they do. There is no answer if people can take lives or not.

Finally, the way of funerals depends on religions. I went to a funeral in America last week with my group. I was really surprised. The assembled mourners didn’t wear suits. The daughter of the deceased wore a red dress. It isn’t good in Japan because we have to wear is black, so most Japanese people wear suits, school uniform, or a kind of mourning kimono for funerals. I asked her why she wore it and she said her mother would hope that she was happy, so she wore it to show happiness. It was interesting thinking for me. Also, when people talked about the deceased, people volunteered to talk. In addition, the funeral was very short and after it finished, people ate snacks. In Japan, we ask a company to arrange the funeral and it takes a long time because every mourner burns incense for the soul of the deceased. Also, people who talk about the deceased are decided and we don’t eat anything. The most surprising thing was the atmosphere. In America, the funeral is a kind of celebration. People celebrate the deceased life. In Japan, it is a kind of ceremony to say good-bye to the deceased and people feel sad. The difference of religions and the influence that causes people to think with a different view was really interesting for me.

Everyone all over the world doesn’t know how long our lives last. To live well, we have to remember that life will be suddenly gone. We don’t know who can decide the limit of lives, but someone has to decide it until the law of punishment has gone. Also, death isn’t always sad and the feeling depends on people, religions and country. To think about death is hard, but it is important to live fully and to be happy every day.

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American Chisato Fujii             When I saw this poem, I felt strong feeling of this poet like “I am an American,” and I also felt this poet’s voice like “Why am I not treated as an American?” I’ve never lived in this period of world war Ⅱ , and of course, I’ve never experienced this suffering and war, but I could feel people’s voice of this period thanks to this poet. Without these Japanese Americans’ voices, I couldn’t feel and understand their feeling and thought. When I understand this poem’s meaning, this poem made me sad, but I also understood Japanese Americans were proud of themselves in the middle of the war. I respect them and am proud.

Memorable Southwest Trip

I had an absolutely amazing time through on the southwest trip with fabulous teachers and friends for one week.  I went to so many special places such as the Grand Canyon. I really wanted to go there and I was able to have a various experiences at the Grand Canyon. In addition, I ate a ton of southwest food and spicy food during this trip. This trip was most memorable for me for three reason for that. Amazing Grand Canyon First, I had many most amazing memories at the Grand Canyon. I really wanted to go to  the Grand Canyon, so my dreams came true. We went to the Mather point at first. That was my first time to see the Grand Canyon. I was really surprised and impressed. It was like a picture, so I was really confused when I was saw that. Then I went to the next point to see the sunset. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous. I was really impressed. The next day, I woke up early. I went to Yaki point to see the sunrise with teachers. That day was really cold and windy, so whe...
