I was really excited about the Southwest trip in the USA. We visited Albuquerque, Santa Fe in New Mexico and Flagstaff, Grand Canyon in Arizona from Oct 12th to Oct 18th. I saw Native American's beautiful and unique art works in museums. I enjoyed spicy Mexican foods very much. And I was deeply moved by the amazing scenery of the Grand Canyon. I was strongly fascinated by all of them.
First of all I would like to introduce about Native American's beautiful are works. We visited Pueblo Cultural Center, the Museum of International Fork Art and the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. There were a lot of interesting art works like potteries, clothes, small sculptures and so on. I think Native American's art patterns are very unique and I love them, because they are sometimes colorful and sometimes stylish and all of them are very pretty for me. My favorite museum was the Museum of International Fork Art. There were about 150,000 art works, and all of them were made by normal people. I saw a miniature diorama town. It was very nice, there were a lot of tiny people and tiny buildings, but the details were really realistic. We didn't have much time, so I wanted to observe that more. We could also see Native American's art works in souvenir shops or galleries in the town. For example small potteries, turquoise jewelries, traditional pattern clothes and so on. I bought small two pierces that made by Native American's traditional way. They are so cute and my favorite. I think Native American's art sense is marvelous. I enjoyed feeling different cultural art very much.
Second, I enjoyed a lot of new Mexican foods that I've never eaten. Some of my friends didn't like them, because they were usually spicy. Although like spicy foods, so I loved Mexican foods. I was surprised, because all shops I went to served Nachos for free. I thought I’m lucky, but I often ate too much Nachos before the order came and had left over in my main dish. I found there were two kinds of chili sauces, red and green, sometimes we could choose. I liked green chili better than red chili, because I thought it tastes spicy but also mild. I ate some traditional Mexican food like tortilla, tacos and so on. My favorite was fried bread that ate with honey. It was so delicious, but unfortunately I forgot the name. I found fancy restaurants, Pink Adobe and La Plazuela at La Fonda in Santa Fe. Both of those restaurants' atmospheres were gorgeous and the dishes were also good. I recommend both of them. I didn't have opportunities to eat Mexican foods in Japan, so it was my first time, and now I really like Mexican food.
Finally I want to introduce amazing sceneries of the Grand Canyon. I had never seen such a beautiful sceneries in my life so far and I was really moved by them. When I saw the Grand Canyon at the first time, I couldn't say anything because the scene transcended my expectation and I didn't know how to express that superb scene. In Japan we can't feel such dynamic nature power, so I was overwhelmed by it. The south rim of the Grand Canyon's weather was rainy and cloudy when we went, so I thought we wouldn't see good scenery, but actually we could saw various parts of the Grand Canyon and they were really fantastic and beautiful. I walked the rim trail with my friends from Shrine of the Ages to Yavapai Geology Museum. It was good time, because we could see the Grand Canyon from different angles during walking and there were not so many people, so we could appreciate the beauty of the Grand Canyon very well. And there were a lot of good points to take pictures. We stopped many times, because sometimes the Grand Canyon changed the color gradation like pink, red, brown, and orange. We burned all of those scenes into our memory. I was impressed by the scenery of the Grand Canyon very much, so I want to share this feeling with important people in my life. I want to visit the Grand Canyon again with my family someday.
This trip was a valuable experience for me. I could know the history and culture of Southwest. I could eat a lot of delicious Mexican foods. And I could see amazing sceneries of the Grand Canyon. If I had not joined the extension program, maybe I would never have visited the Southwest in my life. I spend the wonderful time, so I'll never forget this trip.
