My Marvelous Days

Every day in Spokane is splendid for me. It has been more than three months since I came back here. This semester was totally different from last semester, such as atmosphere, motivation and class. My senses of values have changed a great deal thanks to this semester. I was able to mingle with several American people and experience American seasonal culture.

First, we have astonishing opportunities to talk and mingle with American people, it is connecting to keep my motivation high, such as Language Cultural Day (LCD) classes and SFCC classes. Before I said, LCD classes helped to motivate highly. In the classes, we were able to see and talk with native speakers about themes which was decided beforehand. We discuss "gun-controlling", "adoption" and "international marriage". Every themes were concerned with differences between America and Japan. Each discussions were exciting for me, and I could know the local people's opinions and what they think about it. Indeed, we can attend the SFCC classes with SFCC students twice a month. I took the sociology class. I was surprised that in the class, a lot of students asked questions and said their opinions aggressively. It is rare in the Japan. I was very stimulated by their posture which took the classes.

Fantastic Halloween Party
Next, I experienced delightful seasonal cultural event, Halloween. Fortunately, I was able to join two Halloween Parties. On October 30, all MFWI students had a Halloween party at MFWI. This party was held by our RAs. All MFWI students and RAs wore several costume. In this connection, I wore KIKI's costume. KIKI is a protagonist of Japanese Anime movie "Kiki's Delivery". Actually, it was the first time to wear costume, so I was very excited. There are a lot of scary zombies, funny characters and cute princesses. We danced, chatted and played games which our RAs prepared and it was related to Halloween. We are extension students did flash mob. Before the party, we spend one week to practice dance. Everyone except extension students were surprised at our flash mob, so our flash mob was succeeded! I was very happy, and I think it was very pleasure to do something with extension members. Moreover I went to homestay on October 31, so I was able to join "Trick or Treat" and home Halloween party. Actually, I really wanted to go trick or treat at least once because I had never experienced it, so I really enjoyed it. During going "Trick or Treat", my host father told his son that if there were no pumpkin or light, we should not go to the house. When I heard it, I was surprised because I didn't know and guess there are some rule on the visiting house. Also, I think thanks to the visiting trick or treat, it is one of the way to become to be a good mixer in their neighborhood. Many people wore various funny, cute and scary costume, so just walking was a lot of fun. Finally, I got more than 80 candies and chocolates! I really enjoyed Halloween day.

As you can see, this semester is extremely magnificent days. I was able to interchange with a lot of American people, went into American classes and attend it in reality, and undergo culture peculiar to America. We can stay only less than 40 days, so I would like to experience American culture, and talk and mingle with people more and more.

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American Chisato Fujii             When I saw this poem, I felt strong feeling of this poet like “I am an American,” and I also felt this poet’s voice like “Why am I not treated as an American?” I’ve never lived in this period of world war Ⅱ , and of course, I’ve never experienced this suffering and war, but I could feel people’s voice of this period thanks to this poet. Without these Japanese Americans’ voices, I couldn’t feel and understand their feeling and thought. When I understand this poem’s meaning, this poem made me sad, but I also understood Japanese Americans were proud of themselves in the middle of the war. I respect them and am proud.

Memorable Southwest Trip

I had an absolutely amazing time through on the southwest trip with fabulous teachers and friends for one week.  I went to so many special places such as the Grand Canyon. I really wanted to go there and I was able to have a various experiences at the Grand Canyon. In addition, I ate a ton of southwest food and spicy food during this trip. This trip was most memorable for me for three reason for that. Amazing Grand Canyon First, I had many most amazing memories at the Grand Canyon. I really wanted to go to  the Grand Canyon, so my dreams came true. We went to the Mather point at first. That was my first time to see the Grand Canyon. I was really surprised and impressed. It was like a picture, so I was really confused when I was saw that. Then I went to the next point to see the sunset. The sunset was absolutely gorgeous. I was really impressed. The next day, I woke up early. I went to Yaki point to see the sunrise with teachers. That day was really cold and windy, so whe...
