The Special Communication Tool

To visit a university is one of my enjoyable things for this semester, so I was looking forward to visiting a WSU campus, and could learn about various things.   First, I enjoyed landscape from the window while I was on the bus. Actually, I was sleepy a little, but I didn’t want to lose this opportunity to see fascinating landscape, so I didn’t sleep. In Japan, there are a lot of mountains, so I can’t look around a landscape like here. That’s why it was really attractive and I was impressed by land. Also, I felt America is really large and Japan is really small. I thought if Japan had like this land, we could solve a lot of problems, including disposing of materials in Fukushima. Japan doesn’t have enough land. When I returned to MFWI, I thought such things.   Second, I was impressed by Japanese cartoons, because my group members learned about Japanese language from them. My group members were from Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Korea, and China. The student who is from

Enjoyable Visit to WSU

I had a really good time with international students at Washington State University. Since I had visited the university last semester, I knew a little about the university. However, since the former visit was so short, I was looking forward to the visit this time. Actually, it was beyond my expectation. First of all, I met people from all over the world. For example, I had two Chinese and two Saudi Arabians in my group during the class. I have been studying English for a long time and I had several chances to talk with international students. However, it was almost the first time for me to talk with Saudi Arabians. Although their English was sometimes difficult for me to understand, I enjoyed talking with them and hearing about their country. Second, I enjoyed free time with Chinese and Saudi Arabian students. We ate lunch together and went to the student lounge. Kindly, one of the Chinese boys bought me Starbucks! Another Chinese boy showed us a magic performance with car

Great Internationa

The WSU trip was really great. I could meet many international students and all of them were so inspirational for me. The most interesting facts about them were the people from many other countries, their English skill, and their dreams. First, I was surprised to meet many people from different countries. I met Chinese, Saudi Arabians, and Brazilians. I had never had such an opportunity to meet so many foreigners until then! I could talk with them a lot about cultures and English studying. I also exchanged Facebook accounts with a Brazilian girl, a Chinese boy, and a Saudi Arabian boy. I was really happy to become friends with them! Secondly, I was astonished by their English skill. They spoke English a lot. Of course their English was with their own language’s accents, but still their English was very high. Sometimes, they couldn’t understand my English because my English had a Japanese accent. I felt my English was very poor but it encouraged me to study English harder. I rea

Spokane Interstate Fair

I enjoyed and learn American culture such as food, exhibitions, and ride at Spokane Interstate Fair. First of all, I ate Gyros and Elephant Ear. Gyros is a kind of Greek food with meat and vegetables. It was delicious. The meat was lamb. Although it was a first experience to eat lamb, it was so tasty. I ate an Elephant Ear as well. It is not a real “elephant ear”; it is dough with powdered cinnamon and sugar. It was so big, but I ate the whole of thing with my roommate. After we finished eating, we were astonished at our appetite. Next, I saw many exhibitions, because one of my teacher recommended me to see that. I learned the exhibition was held by “4-H”. “4-H” is an organization like girl scouts. It gives some children many experiences to cook, and to learn nutrition. One of the exhibition booths is a competition of big vegetables. I saw surprisingly huge pumpkins.   Finally, I rode a ride. We get into a thing like a cage and turn it many times. It looks more dangerous than Japan

Wonderful fair inSpokane

Top of the Fair Spokane has a wonderful interstate fair. First, there are many delicious kinds of food. The famous food is Elephant ear, turkey and Huckleberry. Elephant Ear is fried flattened dough, butter, sugar and cinnamon. It was sweet and delicious. Spokane is famous for Huckleberries so I drank a huckleberry smoothie. It was tasty and sweet. All of the dishes were so big. I had half of a chicken and it was bigger than I thought. Second, there are many crazy roller coasters. It was not crowded so I could ride it without waiting long. I think Japanese amusement rides are too crowded. I rode two kinds of rides. One of them was very fast and crazy, so my neck was sore and I felt a little bit sick. The other was also crazy because it was speedy but it was fun. I thought it was interesting to hear that this is a traveling amusement park. Third, there are many people and cute animals. I saw a lot of families. I think anyone from adults to children can enjoy the Spokane Fair and

The Memorable Fair

The Spokane Interstate Fair was an interesting event for me. First, the atmosphere made me excited. It was the first time for me to visit this kind of event in a foreign country and, what is more, I haven’t been to such a big fair even in Japan. There were also many kinds of crazy rides in the amusement park and cheerful music was played throughout the venue. wonderful dinner with G12!! Second, I enjoyed eating special food such as Gyros, the Greek sandwich, cotton candy and funnel cakes. We can hardly eat them in Japan so it was a good experience for me though most of them looked so high in calorie and unhealthy. Finally, I enjoyed seeing and touching animals the most. I was so surprised to see children riding on sheep at one of the competitions. Also, seeing and feeding farm animals was so much fun. Everything I saw was a new experience for me. The Spokane Interstate Fair was such a memorable event!

An Amazing Festival

I was glad to go to The Spokane Interstate Fair where I could make good memories with my friends. First of all, the atmosphere was good and I enjoyed it. There were many people, shops, animals and attractions. I could not walk around all the places, but I saw many things and tried as much as I could. Next, I enjoyed eating food. Before I went there, I learned about this festival a little, so I wanted to eat “elephant ear”. When I found the shop and ate it, I thought it was different from what I imaged and was really sweet but it was tasty. I shared it with my friends and they had the same opinion. I also drank huckleberry juice and it was delicious, so I want to drink it again. Then, I rode some attractions. At first, I was afraid of riding on a roller coaster, but it was so fun. When I rode a Ferris wheel, I could see a beautiful view and take a lot of good pictures. There were some other attractions at the festival, and it seemed very scary for me, but people looked happy, so I

The Fantastic Fair

Fantastic View The Spokane Interstate Fair was a memorable event for me. First, I was looking forward to eating food at the fair. I ate deep fried Ravioli which was my RA’s recommendation. It was square and there was cheese inside. I really liked it. I also ate Funnel Cake with my friends. It tasted like caramel. It was very sweet and delicious. I could eat more but I didn’t, because if I eat more, I will gain weight. I got a lot of “one bites” from my friends. Everything was very good! Second, there were numerous rides. I took a ride which turned very speedily. While I rode it, I couldn’t understand where I was. I think a roller coaster called the roll of fire was the scariest. The roller coaster ran in a big circle back and forth, and sometimes stopped at the top. I felt like I was going to vomit. Next, I watched a funny show and an interesting exhibition, such as the pumpkin competition. I watched a race that children rode on sheep and kept riding. They were very cute and b

Interesting Interenational Fair

Many exciting rides I went to a Spokane Interstate Fair. It was wonderful for me.  First, I ate lots of unique food. There were a lot of kinds of food. I ate gyro which is a Greek food. It is a sandwich which has chicken and many vegetables inside of it. It was the first time that I ate Greek food! It was really great! Also, I shared a funnel cake with my friends. It was really sweet and delicious! However, it was too sweet for me, so I couldn’t finish eating all.  Secondly, I saw some rides, too. There were many kinds of rides such as roller coasters, and carousel. All of them looked exciting, but I can’t ride some roller coasters, so I just looked at them. There were also some game shops. All of them looked fun, and I want to try them next time.  Big Cow! Finally, I saw a lot of farm animals. I’d never seen so many kinds of animals at once until then! I could see horses, goats, sheep, donkeys, cows, and chickens. Moreover, I could touch them! I was really excited. I fe

Fantastic Provincial Festival

I had exciting memories by using my five senses at a Spokane Interstate Fair. First, many great exhibitions moved me. When I entered the storehouse, massive pumpkins came into my view. I have never seen such giant pumpkins, which got a prize. There were not only pumpkins but also the other vegetables and fruit. I felt the crops were raised lovingly by farmers, and also the fair is for farmers to show off their year’s efforts.   Then I moved to an animal booth where there are various animals such as rabbits, goats, chickens, ducks and turkeys. In a part of the booth, we could touch a baby crocodile, turtles and rabbits. They made me feel peaceful. Next, both of taste and sight of special foods excited me. Sadly, I hadn’t felt hungry at the time, so I didn’t eat any special food such as Gyros, funnel cake, some caramel apples. Even I didn’t get them, watching someone eating them was also fun. Judging from watching, a portion was big, and some sweets were colorful, so I really enjoyed

Wonderful Students

It has been over a week since I came back to Spokane as an EXT student. Classes have already started. There are new systems, new students and new teachers which are different than before. To me, the most impressive difference this time is the students. Now, I feel I cannot follow them because they are very excellent in their attitude, especially their positiveness and activeness in the classes. For instance,  most EXT students can raise their hands very quickly when they ask questions and say opinions. There is no hesitance and silence which tends to happen to Japanese students. This fact demonstrates that they are very positive, clever and highly motivative students. They usually speak before I wonder even think about trying to raise my hand, and this is beyond description. I have to be brave and try to speak in the classes, which means, I have to be willing to make mistakes and take risks. At the same time I am so excited to study with such great students here.

Unexpectedly Interesting Fair

I had a really great experience at the Spokane Interstate fair in America. Japanese fairs are very different than the ones in America. I found many exciting different points. First, Japanese fairs sell many special local products and the fair do not have roller coasters, just stores and a few attractions for kids. So when I head about the fair in my reading class, I thought that American fairs and Japanese fairs would have the same situations. I thought the American fairs may be flashier than the fair in Japan but it was very different! I thought the Spokane fair was very crazy because it had many livestock (different animals) and it was like a farm. Also all food sizes were too big, for example the elephant ear, juice (we can order as much juice as we like.), popcorn, and hamburger. Additionally, most of the rides looked very scary. I like scary roller coasters and eating but these were unusual for me so I always laughed out loud, "Ha ha!". When I rode the roller coa

My Precious Experience

The Awesome View at the Fair I have been having a good time since I came here. The teachers, RAs and staff at MFWI welcomed us warmly, so I was very happy and I am also happy now. My life at MFWI is little different from the last semester, but I'm really enjoying this life. Anyway, we went to  the Spokane Interstate Fair  on Tuesday, and I had wonderful experiences that I had never experienced before. The food was very appetizing. First, I was very hungry when we arrived there, so I ate a funnel cake, a big piece of chicken and some pizza. I had never eaten such a big cake and a piece of chicken, so I was excited and happy to eat them. They were very tasty, so I wanted to eat more food. Then, I noticed that a difference between America and Japan. Japanese festivals or fairs also have many branch stores and the food they serve is takoyaki, french fries and cotton candy. I like Japanese festival food, but I also like American fair food more, because we can eat ma

Fantastic Experience

I had wonderful time with my group members at Spokane Interstate Fair. It was interesting amusement I had and it was my first time to go to such a surprising amusement park. I experienced three marvelous things.   First, I really enjoyed the park because in one amusement park, there are various things and I could experience a few of them. There were a lot of animals, plants, powerful fair rides. I also could eat American foods. This style is rare in Japan. Usually people can eat something and see the animals in the zoo. There are not fair rides in Japan. In Japanese amusement park, you can ride a roller coaster and eat something, but there no animals of course no plants. I was able to enjoy a lot of things at a same time at Spokane. Second, American fair rides are terrible. I couldn't ride that, because they looked chilling. I thought that my head would fly off. Last, the food size were too big. I ordered an ice cream, and my friend was going to order it. However, when my ic

Shocking Encounter

About one week has passed since I came back to MFWI. Most things is the same as the regular program, but one thing is special for me. It is meeting people who can speak second language. Extention class, we have especial guests day. People are invited to talk to us about specific topic. I never have interviewed such a person, so I was really looking forward to meeting them. I asked four people about their successful second language learning strategy. The most interesting and deeply impressive talk was from Ron's son. When I heard his laughter, I bursted out laughing because his laughter really resemble Ron's one.  It was so funny. First I asked him how he studies a second language. He said listening to saying of native speaker many times is very important. Also, he said imitating is important, too after listening.  I'll try to listen a lot and imitate others. He gave me high motivation. That's why he said to me "Never stop learning!!"  I realize once more tha

Amazing Fair

I had a wonderful experience when I went to The State Fair. Actually, it was second time to go to the fair in the USA because when I was summer program student, I went to the fair in Idaho. However,  the Spokane fair  was completely different than the Idaho fair because at first when I went to the Spokane fair, it was noon so all of the fair rides closed. The Idaho fair was a little boring. The Spokane fair was bustling and all of the fair rides were open! There are a lot of animals, different kind of  foods and people. It was like a festival. There were many surprising things for me. Huge pumpkins At first, when I saw a huge cup of Lemonade. I was really surprised at it. At the same time, I thought it is usual here but it is unusual for Japanese people. Also, other foods at the fair were big. If I don't control my appetite, it would be inevitable for me to gain my weight easily. However, I couldn't stop my appetite. I ate Teriyaki fried rice, clam chowder and ice cream

Fascinating Fair

The Spokane County Fair  was like a village. There were many farm animals, many open-air stalls, many exhibits and many amusement rides. This fair was very dynamic and fantastic. I could experienced a lot of things. Probably, Japan doesn't have such as an interesting and adventurous fair. I think this is just an American festival!!There were two things that were very engrossing to me. First, There were a lot of interesting dishes. I tried to eat three different dishes which I have never  seen and eaten before. I ate a Funnel cake, some deep-fried lasagnas and a Gyro. They were so delicious. I especially like the Funnel cake. This cake originated from German immigrants. The mouth sensation when eating was crunchy and it went with the sauce well. Then, I watched an absorbing show called "Kids' Mutton Bustin". Children rode on top of the sheep's body and they tried to stay on the sheep's running around. I didn't know who the children were, but spontaneous

Tremendous Encounter

The funny man who is playing the harmonica   It’s been about two weeks since I came back to Spokane, and I have met a lot of people who live here. They are so nice, charming, and interested in us. Also, I was touched by them. First of all, I met a man who has lived in Spokane for 63 years when I went downtown. I was just walking outside at River Park Square after having magnificent lunch, then I met a man. He was playing the harmonica, and he made everybody feel warm and happy. Also, there were a lot of pictures which were drawn by the man with color chalk on the side walk next to him. According to what I heard, he was an office worker, and he enjoys entertaining people after he retired. I told him that I came back to America to learn English, then he gave me a piece of great advice. That was, “In all matters, having fun is important!” I think it means having fun helps me keep trying and never give up because it is fun. He was persuasive because he looked happy and gave off a rad

Brilliant Heart

Fabulous Group 14 A week  has passed since I arrived at MFWI and I'm always busy. I am sure that it's because of homework. Anyway,  I had a great time at the Welcome Banquet yesterday. First of all, I enjoyed talking with teachers and RAs. It was a nice opportunity for me. They have been to many various countries and most of them can speak other than English such as Spanish, German, and French. I was very surprised by the fact, for I had thought Japanese people must acquire 2nd or 3rd languages because Japanese isn't a very common language in this world. I learned that even people who speak English study other languages to learn about different cultures and communicate with foreigners. I realized that MFWI's teachers and RAs are very eager to have personal goal and they are full of confidence. And then, teachers here often say" I'm here to help you. Please use me". Learning about this from teachers and RAs encourages me. Next, we were excited singin
