Amazing Fair

I had a wonderful experience when I went to The State Fair. Actually, it was second time to go to the fair in the USA because when I was summer program student, I went to the fair in Idaho. However, the Spokane fair was completely different than the Idaho fair because at first when I went to the Spokane fair, it was noon so all of the fair rides closed. The Idaho fair was a little boring. The Spokane fair was bustling and all of the fair rides were open! There are a lot of animals, different kind of  foods and people. It was like a festival. There were many surprising things for me.

Huge pumpkins
At first, when I saw a huge cup of Lemonade. I was really surprised at it. At the same time, I thought it is usual here but it is unusual for Japanese people. Also, other foods at the fair were big. If I don't control my appetite, it would be inevitable for me to gain my weight easily. However, I couldn't stop my appetite. I ate Teriyaki fried rice, clam chowder and ice cream. Those foods were delicious. I want to eat many American foods this semester.

Second, I saw big pumpkins there. I have never seen such big pumpkins. The biggest pumpkin can receive an award. However, those pumpkins are just for show and tell so no one should eat them. It was unexpected for me. American foods and vegetables are always bigger than Japanese ones. It makes me surprised and excited.

Thus, I had surprising and great experiences from I came here. It's third time to come here but I can get new experiences all of the time. Gradually, I would get used to speaking to American people and I feel improvement in my English skills. I am so excited to spend time here for about four month again.

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American Chisato Fujii             When I saw this poem, I felt strong feeling of this poet like “I am an American,” and I also felt this poet’s voice like “Why am I not treated as an American?” I’ve never lived in this period of world war Ⅱ , and of course, I’ve never experienced this suffering and war, but I could feel people’s voice of this period thanks to this poet. Without these Japanese Americans’ voices, I couldn’t feel and understand their feeling and thought. When I understand this poem’s meaning, this poem made me sad, but I also understood Japanese Americans were proud of themselves in the middle of the war. I respect them and am proud.

My Unbelievable Southwest Trip

I experienced a lot of amazing things for seven days with my absolutely wonderful teachers and friends from October 15-21 and learned a lot of Southwest culture, history, and nature. For example, we went to about 12 museums and facilities, such as the Pueblo Cultural Center, the University of Mexico, and some churches in New Mexico and Arizona. Therefore, I kept busy on the trip, but it became something I have never experienced because everything I saw was new to me. There are three things that especially impressed me. First, I was attracted to the buildings of New Mexico. These were really different from Spokane, Boston, or Washington D.C. For example, I went to Old Town in Albuquerque. Then I noticed that almost all the buildings were made of adobe. Adobe means mud brick in Spanish, so the buildings I saw were brown and some parts were air blue. I felt comfortable there. I also saw a plaza and a church which were adobe style buildings. The plaza is the most central part in Old T...
