My Unbelievable Southwest Trip

I experienced a lot of amazing things for seven days with my absolutely wonderful teachers and friends from October 15-21 and learned a lot of Southwest culture, history, and nature. For example, we went to about 12 museums and facilities, such as the Pueblo Cultural Center, the University of Mexico, and some churches in New Mexico and Arizona. Therefore, I kept busy on the trip, but it became something I have never experienced because everything I saw was new to me. There are three things that especially impressed me.

First, I was attracted to the buildings of New Mexico. These were really different from Spokane, Boston, or Washington D.C. For example, I went to Old Town in Albuquerque. Then I noticed that almost all the buildings were made of adobe. Adobe means mud brick in Spanish, so the buildings I saw were brown and some parts were air blue. I felt comfortable there. I also saw a plaza and a church which were adobe style buildings. The plaza is the most central part in Old Town. Next, I went to Santa Fe. It is the oldest capital city in the United States. The capitol was a two-story adobe building. However, I thought that inside was similar to capitols of other states. Finally, I learned adobe is suitable for New Mexico. These buildings were fresh for me and I really liked them.

Second, the place which I was looking forward to visiting most was Sunset Crater. I did a presentation about it in a class before South West trip. Then, I mainly searched for plants and animals. Water goes through very quickly there, so plants are definitely strong. For instance, I saw Ponderose Pine and rabbitbrush blooms. They have grown among the cinders. I was very surprised and they impressed to me. Unfortunately, I couldn't see some animals. However, there are squirrels, raccoons, and some kinds of birds there. In addition, I saw interesting such as, a volcano and spatter corn. It means little ovens in Spanish. It was formed because of bursting liquid lava as gases released like bubbles of carbonated drinks. They were absolutely fabulous. I was able to receive the strong nature power. To sum up the Sunset Crater was more amazing than I expected.
Third, the Grand Canyon was the my most favorite place. When I got to first view of Grand Canyon, I was so excited. The Grand Canyon was absolutely enormous. It was beyond my imagination. Also, I could see the sunset at Mather Point. I felt relaxed and impressed by the view. I just wanted to keep gazing at it. The next day, we had free time all day. First, I went to see the sunrise. I really enjoyed it, but it was too cold and I had to wake up at 5am. In addition, the sky was completely filled with stars. They didn't make me bored. Next, I went to a lot of spots to see the Grand Canyon by a free bus. I could see that from various angles. The Grand Canyon day was absolutely fantastic, so I didn't want to leave there.

In conclusion, I went to a lot of places on the American Southwest trip and I experienced amazing things for seven days. However, I especially like adobe, Sunset Crater, and the Grand Canyon. They really impressed me. Therefore, I want to go there again someday.

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American

Respectable Voice of The Japanese American Chisato Fujii             When I saw this poem, I felt strong feeling of this poet like “I am an American,” and I also felt this poet’s voice like “Why am I not treated as an American?” I’ve never lived in this period of world war Ⅱ , and of course, I’ve never experienced this suffering and war, but I could feel people’s voice of this period thanks to this poet. Without these Japanese Americans’ voices, I couldn’t feel and understand their feeling and thought. When I understand this poem’s meaning, this poem made me sad, but I also understood Japanese Americans were proud of themselves in the middle of the war. I respect them and am proud.
