Wonderful Southwest Trip

Our Extension program Southwest trip was absolutely amazing. I went to many places, such as Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Flagstaff. In each place, I did many enjoyable learning things, experienced some things for the first time, and I was impressed by visiting the same age students. This trip became a precious memory in my life and I want to tell about this wonderful trip to my family and friends. I definitely will not forget these experiences. There are especially three exciting things that impressed me.

University of New Mexico
First, I enjoyed talking with the University of New Mexico students. They were learning Japanese, so we used Japanese and English to talk about ourselves. I was impressed with their attitude about learning Japanese, so I thought I have to learn English harder and harder, like them. My partner’s major is anatomy, but he likes language, so he wants to change his major from anatomy to linguistics. I was surprised and respect him because he is younger than me, but he has some clear goals at university. I also exchanged my LINE account with him, and now, I keep in touch with him. He teaches me correct English in the messages. I appreciate this and I also teach him Japanese. It’s a good opportunity for me. Surprisingly, he will come to Japan next fall semester. I can meet him again and I’m looking forward to it. I believed the University of New Mexico students are energetic and their learning attitudes are amazing.

Georgia O'Keeffe's Arts
Second, I was impressed with Georgia O’Keeffe museum. I like painting, especially flowers, and I also like dark colors, such as black and gray. Georgia O’Keeffe’s paintings use many dark colors and she draws m
any flowers, so I love her paintings. I also like her ideas. Her messages made me a big impression. For example, she said “When I was born and where and how I have lived is unimportant. It is what I have done with where I have been that should be of interest.” Sometimes I am worried about my situations. For instance, if I had been born and had grown up in another country where English was spoken, I could be speaking English fluently, now and I can live in the world easier than now. Or if I had been born before I was born, I could have received a better education than now. However, it’s not important in my life and important things are how I enjoy in my life now. I noticed this idea and I respect her life. I was impressed by her paintings and her words.

Sunrise of the Grand Canyon
Third, the Grand Canyon was my favorite part in this trip. Of course, I’ve never been to the Grand Canyon. I was really looking forward to going and seeing there and I really enjoyed our free day. It was full of thrills because of the cliffs of dazzling height and I loved it there. I thought the sky was closer than usual, and at night, the stars were so beautiful. I won’t forget it. I also believe the sunrise was absolutely fantastic. I have never seen it in my life, so I was happy to see it. However, in the morning at the Grand Canyon, it was really cold, so I want to go there when it is warmer the next time. I also took many pictures and talked with people from other countries. It was a good opportunity to speak English with native people. Sometimes, their talking was difficult for me, but I could understand easier than last semester. I was so happy about it. I experienced sunrise for the first time in my life and I want to go there again.

In conclusion, this Southwest trip had a lot of enjoyable things and I was impressed by people and nature. I especially liked the University of New Mexico’s students, Georgia O’Keeffe’s pai
ntings, and the view of Grand Canyon. These things became my precious memories and I want to talk and share with my family and friends.

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...

My Unbelievable Southwest Trip

I experienced a lot of amazing things for seven days with my absolutely wonderful teachers and friends from October 15-21 and learned a lot of Southwest culture, history, and nature. For example, we went to about 12 museums and facilities, such as the Pueblo Cultural Center, the University of Mexico, and some churches in New Mexico and Arizona. Therefore, I kept busy on the trip, but it became something I have never experienced because everything I saw was new to me. There are three things that especially impressed me. First, I was attracted to the buildings of New Mexico. These were really different from Spokane, Boston, or Washington D.C. For example, I went to Old Town in Albuquerque. Then I noticed that almost all the buildings were made of adobe. Adobe means mud brick in Spanish, so the buildings I saw were brown and some parts were air blue. I felt comfortable there. I also saw a plaza and a church which were adobe style buildings. The plaza is the most central part in Old T...
