Did you know that Japan has the oldest imperial court in the world? Nowadays, the Japanese emperor is the symbol of Japan and is not involved in politics. However, emperors were involved in politics during the Muromachi period (1336-1573) which includes the Nanbokucho period (1336-1392). Furthermore, the imperial court at that time was divided into two courts because of complicated problems. In addition, one of the shoguns who was a Japanese political leader tried to obtain the position of the emperor. This presentation will talk about a famous emperor during the Muromachi era and a shogun who tried to be emperor.
