Koyasan, or Mt. Koya, is the home of a Shingon Buddhist temple complex that is one of the most important religious places in Western Japan. Koyasan was founded twelve centuries ago by the great Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi (Kukai). Koyasan has a very long history which is the unbelievable story of Kobo Daishi. In 2004, Koyasan was selected as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Many tourists from all over the world visit Koyasan. Tourists can stay at a temple hotel called “shukubo”. At shukubo, tourists have a Japanese vegetarian meal call “syojin-ryori”. This presentation will be about important places in Koyasan, it's interesting history and the historic temple lodging.
