Splendid Time on the Southwest Trip

I had an awesome time at Southwest trip from October 10th to 16th. All Extension students visited Albuquerque and Santa Fe in New Mexico and the Grand Canyon in Arizona and so on. And I could learn a lot of American history and culture more deeply. I felt that time flew so fast. Thanks to friends, teachers, and local people that I met on this trip, I could have really wonderful time.

Beautiful sunset in Santa Fe
First of all, I was so impressed by New Mexico. The atmosphere of New Mexico was extremely different from Spokane. There are two reasons why I like New Mexico. First, Santa Fe is a great city. Santa Fe means "Holy Faith." This is the oldest city and also the third largest art market in the United States. We could learn lots of things such as traditional food, buildings, arts and so on. There were a lot of adobe architectures in New Mexico. Adobe is the traditional building of Southwest. It was so cute. Also, I saw that native American sold arts and jewelry like pottery, turquoise, silver and so on. Those were unique and beautiful. Next, I really enjoyed time in Acoma Pueblo. Pueblo means village, and Acoma Pueblo is known as "Sky City" because its sit on top of the high mesa. When I was the buildings in the bus, I couldn't believe that people live in there. And I couldn't understand why people live in there because I thought it was difficult to live. People who live in there are native American. I learned that they want to protect their pueblo. They also respect native American, so they live in there. I learned about native American, and I really enjoyed in New Mexico.

All Extension students and wonderful guide
Second, I had great time at the University of New Mexico. This is public university and was founded in 1998. Also, this university When I saw the buildings, I was surprised because it looked Adobe architecture. This university is very big and has some amazing things like a big movie theater, hall, art museum and so on. We went to the Japanese class, and we met American students who learn Japanese. Their major is linguistic or foreign language, so they can speak Japanese very well. On the other hand, our major is English, so the UNM students spoke Japanese and we spoke English. It was a lot of fun. After that, we had lunch with American students. I talked with a girl there. She is very nice and friendly, so I could get along with her soon. And I was very surprised at her because she is 21 years old, and she has a husband. Moreover, her husband is Japanese. She got married to him when She was 20 years old. Her story was very interesting, and I really enjoyed talking with her. I was happy to make friends with her.

Terrific scenery at the Grand Canyon
Finally, the Grand Canyon is my favorite place on this trip. I had an amazing time at the Grand Canyon. I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time. I was really looking forward to going there since I had decided to join the Extension program, so I was so happy that one of my dreams came true in this trip. I was really impressed by scenery of the Grand Canyon. Fortunately, the weather was nice, so I could see fantastic scenery I had never seen before. It was very mysterious and amazing. When I saw the scenery, I felt man’s existence is an insignificant blip in the vastness of the earth. The beauty of the scenery was beyond expression. We had free-time all day here, so I saw the sunrise with my group members. After that, we visited some museums and we hiked a lot all the day. The sunrise and sunset that we could see from the Grand Canyon were so beautiful. My group member are also so nice, and we are really good friends. I really like them. I’m so happy to have lovely friends like them. The Grand Canyon's scenery was extremely beautiful, and I really enjoyed free-time with my group members.

Through this wonderful Southwest trip, I could learn native American history and culture. They all were interesting for me. Traditional food, buildings, arts, everything was unique and new for me. I was able to make awesome memories with my friends. And I really enjoyed this trip. It became one of the best memories and treasures. I'll never forget this magnificent memories.

Unforgettable Southwest Trip

I went on a totally amazing Southwest trip with my classmates. The trip was my first time to go to the Southwest so everything was new to me. Sarah, Anikke and Bethany came with us. They made our trip more exciting. I’m happy I could go on this trip with them and I had a lot of great experiences. First, I really enjoyed New Mexico. It was chilly but not too cold. I went to the Old Town in  Albuquerque, New Mexico. I liked the Old Town because there are many cute things and good restaurants in there. For example, I found a gate that was decorated with a lot of red chili peppers. I had never seen anything like that before so I was very surprised and it looked like a lot of flowers from a distance. The red chili peppers were absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, I found a great restaurant. I forgot the name of the restaurant but they have really delicious Mexican food. They gave me some Mexican chips for free and recommended that I eat the chips with honey. I really like Mexican ...

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...
