When I saw this poem the first time, I felt the author's strong feelings. "Sure" is a very strong expression and shows very strong confidence. I read Weedflower and I know many Japanese Americans couldn't go to school during World WarⅡ. Sumiko was not sure why she can't go to school. So I could imagine a little bit how Japanese Americans thought about that. And I realized this author is not sure she can't go to school. But this author used “sure”, I thought why? And I think it is because suddenly they couldn’t go to school, and they thought, “Why I can’t go to the school? Why can white people can go to school? Why? I’m Japanese American. I’m an American citizen, same as they American”. I think that this author has a very strong mind, and this author felt discrimination. And this author knows Japanese Americans can’t go to school, but by using “sure” this author expresses a strong mind. And I think this author wanted to express looks strong to Americans. I can agree, if I were this author maybe I would think about why Japanese Americans can’t go to school? When I imagine this author’s life, I couldn’t stop. Also I was very impressed by this poem. This poem is short compared with other poems. But I thought this poem included a lot of the author’s feeling. So I chose this poem.
