Interesting Culture

I  enjoyed South West Trip very much on last week. We went to lot of places like a Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon and more. But I was really impressed about Native American, especially houses, food, and dance.

Beautiful Adobe Houses
First, I was really impressed with the Native American's houses. We went to Acoma Pueblo. Pueblo means village. And this place is known as Sky City, because it located on top of a high mesa. So the view from top of village was so beautiful! And this village was built perhaps as early as 1100 AD and has been lived in since then, so over 900 years. There are lot of houses, they are made of "Adobe.” I was impressed, because I have never seen these houses before. The shape of most the houses was square and these houses have a very small window, because Adobe is very heavy. I want to live in an Adobe house, because it looks so nice! And we went to Montezuma Castle. When I saw this house, I was surprised, because this house is located in a cliff, about 80 feet up from the ground. How was it built? And how did they climb to the house? And why did they build it in a place like this? There are reasons. They escaped from US army, so they hid, and if the enemy came, they couldn’t climb to such a high height. And maybe when they climb to enter the house or down off from house by using rope. I thought Native Americans are so smart, because this house is cool during summer, and also warm during winter. So I want to live in this house too. It is sound like fun! Everything was really beautiful and interesting!

Interesting Native American Dance
Second, also I was impressed with Native American food like cactus can live 200years, and this is slow growing. It takes about 15 years to grow one foot. And takes 100 years to get to their full height! I can't believe it! And I have never seen these tall cactuses before! So I was excited to see these plant, and fruits. There are a lot of cactus food like cactus candy, cactus shake, and cactus soup. It was really interesting to me. I want to try it someday!

Huge Cactus
Finally, I was impressed with the Native American dance. We went to Laguna-Acoma High School. Two boy students painted their faces black, and they wore buffalo skin. It looks like buffalo, and another girl wore white cloth with a cute butterfly. It was very interesting to me. And also the dance had very interesting moves. And another 4 boys were playing an instrument like a drum. One of them, made a sound like a flute. I have never seen a Native American dance. So I was very impressed. I was very surprised, because high school students can do traditional dance still now. So I want to them to keep it forever!

In conclusion, actually I have never seen or experienced Native American culture. So I'm really glad that I could learn a lot of Native American culture. I had a wonderful and precious experienced. I will never forget this trip!!

My Valuable Southwest Trip

Last week, we took a trip to the Southwest for 7 days. This trip was an absolutely wonderful memory. I had never been to these areas so I was stimulated by every things, for example, cactus, adobe style buildings, Native American culture and amazing dessert views. It is one of the most interesting trips I ever took, because I experienced some rare things like visiting Grand Canyon, visiting high school and so on. On this trip I could understand about Indian culture from a folk art museum. I would like to introduce some my best memories on this Southwest trip. My first best memory is Georgia O’Keef museum. Actually, before this trip, I was not familiar with her and didn’t know about any of her artworks, but I was looking forward to visiting here because I like art museums. Her artworks were very unique, abstract and absolutely fabulous, and these were very fresh to me. I especially liked bone’s paintings which one of the most famous her artwork, because the color contrast is very c...

Unforgettable Southwest Trip

I went on a totally amazing Southwest trip with my classmates. The trip was my first time to go to the Southwest so everything was new to me. Sarah, Anikke and Bethany came with us. They made our trip more exciting. I’m happy I could go on this trip with them and I had a lot of great experiences. First, I really enjoyed New Mexico. It was chilly but not too cold. I went to the Old Town in  Albuquerque, New Mexico. I liked the Old Town because there are many cute things and good restaurants in there. For example, I found a gate that was decorated with a lot of red chili peppers. I had never seen anything like that before so I was very surprised and it looked like a lot of flowers from a distance. The red chili peppers were absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, I found a great restaurant. I forgot the name of the restaurant but they have really delicious Mexican food. They gave me some Mexican chips for free and recommended that I eat the chips with honey. I really like Mexican ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...
