Exciting Trip

October 2th to 18th, all extension students went on the South West trip. We visited Albuquerque and Santa Fe in New Mexico and Grand Canyon in Arizona and so on. That was second time to visit New Mexico and my first time to visit Arizona. I really enjoyed spending time with my friends and shopping there. And also I am very satisfied about this trip by eating my favorite food, staying at Grand Canyon, and studying interesting culture.

Yummy Foods
First of all, there is my favorite food in New Mexico which is "green chili”. I fell in love with it since I stayed there the last time. Green chili is known as New Mexico's local food. There is an interesting state question like asking about the state animal which is "Green or Red”. It means "Which would you like to have Green chili or Red chili?” They use green chili for many kinds of meals such as burritos, tortillas and tacos, even if it is a hamburger. Through this trip, I ate a lot of green chili meals; burritos, tacos and Green chili soup, but my favorite green meal is "Green Chili Soup”. It is extremely delicious. I ate it at the restaurant named THE SHED downtown in Santa Fe, and it was tasty more than other green chili soups I had ever eaten. It becomes my favorite New Mexico meal. Of course, other green chili foods were also great, and I bought green chili for my family. At the night, we went outside of the rooms and saw a lot of stars which we could not see in Japan, and I saw five shooting stars. It was my first time to see the shooting stars in my life, so I was so impressed and excited. The Grand Canyon was a more marvelous place than my expectation.

foggy Grand Canyon

Secondly, I really enjoyed staying the Grand Canyon, and it was really amazing, obviously. Unfortunately, it was raining and cloudy a little bit, so we could not see the sunrise. However, the view was absolutely awesome, and the Grand Canyon with fog was especially so spectacular. We hiked about four hours from early morning to noon. While hiking we met one American couple who came from New York, and they showed us very interesting things such as an elk's skull or a plant fossil. We had to go to two museums and one visitor center, and we were able to learn a lot about the Grand Canyon such as history or geology.
Beautiful Sunset
On the evening, a surprising thing happened to us. The sunset appeared for a while. We asked many people such as the museum staffs or a guide, and even the guide said you could not see the sunset due to clouds and a seasonal point of the compass, but we believe we definitely could see it. Then, our wish came true. We could see the immensely beautiful sunset at good point with little rain.

Native American Dance

Finally, through this trip, the most interesting thing for me is learning culture such as Native American or Catholic a lot. In Albuquerque and Santa Fe, we visited some museums involved with Native American, and it was very precious for me. Actually, this is the second time to visit them for me, but I had no knowledge about them last time I visited there. I saw a lot of Native American art and potteries which were great. They have other very interesting culture which is one favorite one, language.
Indian Folk Art Museum
There were 19 pueblos and five languages in their life. We learned five languages exist in 19 pueblos in the class before we go on the trip, but it was the first time to listen to them. Some languages have similarities to English, but for me, it was still difficult to listen to them. However, that was awesome to listen to it, and I learned Native Americans try to keep their languages by learning from school to keep next generations. It is important thing for them, and I hope it will be kept by them. The culture exchange with Laguna- Acoma high school student was also very interesting for me. They showed us a Native American Dance which is pretty much different from our Japanese dance, and it was super cool. Also I enjoyed staying and talking with students there. Leaning about their cultures was quite interesting to me.

Through this trip, I had really good time in everywhere; every time and everything, and each experience were precious to me. All of this experience made me satisfied by having a really good time there. This trip is the best MFWI trip ever for me. I really hope I can visit and have good time there again. Also I hope it becomes my dream come true soon.

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...

My Unbelievable Southwest Trip

I experienced a lot of amazing things for seven days with my absolutely wonderful teachers and friends from October 15-21 and learned a lot of Southwest culture, history, and nature. For example, we went to about 12 museums and facilities, such as the Pueblo Cultural Center, the University of Mexico, and some churches in New Mexico and Arizona. Therefore, I kept busy on the trip, but it became something I have never experienced because everything I saw was new to me. There are three things that especially impressed me. First, I was attracted to the buildings of New Mexico. These were really different from Spokane, Boston, or Washington D.C. For example, I went to Old Town in Albuquerque. Then I noticed that almost all the buildings were made of adobe. Adobe means mud brick in Spanish, so the buildings I saw were brown and some parts were air blue. I felt comfortable there. I also saw a plaza and a church which were adobe style buildings. The plaza is the most central part in Old T...
