Terrific Portland Trip

Extension students went on the Portland trip. We visited many museums and places to learn American culture and also Japanese-American. It was colder than I expected, but I enjoyed everything on this trip. This trip was a last trip for us as Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute (MFWI) students. Looking back now, each trip has each wonderful memory. I really like the atmosphere of the downtown in Portland. There were many people running, and moreover, the shops were so cute and fashionable. On this trip, there are three experiences that were very worthful to me.

Wonderful Trip in Portland
First, there was an important chance for me to think deeply about how hard life Japanese-American and American people spent long time ago. I had studied the history about the war, but I had never thought about their life and feelings of them. We visited the Japanese American Memorial, and then, there were poetry that they wrote. When I read them, there were various feelings, for example, sad or angry. I had read the book about the war, so I could imagine the meanings of them. It is very difficult for me to imagine what happened at that time, because I live now. I could feel what they thught at that time and how heavy life they spent, so to visit there was very valuable experience to me.

Second, I feel that the development of technology is awesome to live. We visited the Wasco Country Historical Museum and learned how the people spent their life. There were very interesting information for me, and among them, I was very surprised at the weight of everything. In my imagination, the rifle is very light, so they could get animals to eat ar make fur easily. The truth was very far from my imagination. I saw the real rifle and shooting for the first time, and I tried having it. It was very heavy and difficult to carry. I was very surprised at the real sound and weight of the rifle. In addition to this, their treansportation didn't inovate, so it was very hard to carry heavy things.  I think if I could go to the period, I couldn't do anything. Therefore, I appreciate the ancient people who invented useful things. After visiting there, I thought that I'm very blessed with everything around me.

Finally, I had a marvelous time with the students of the Columbia Basin College (CBC) and the Portland English Language Academy (PELU).  We visited the CBC and the PELU, and we had time to talk with the students. I was very happy, because I could talk to the American students and international students. Among them, I met two people who are from Japan came to study abroad. I was impressed by them, because they looked like very strong. I want to study abroad more, so I want to have more confidence like them. I think that it helps me to be more active and possitive. I was also pleased that I could talk to American students more fluently than before. I want to talk to more people from other countriees, so I decide to keep working hard to communicate and enjoy being with them. This encounter encouraged me to study English more.

Unbelievably Great Extension Members
In conclusion, I had an amagingly precious time on this trip. This trip was very special for me by many reasons as I mentioned. This experience made me a chance to think about my own country's history and today's life. Also, I was impressed by many people to make effort more, so I will keep studying English hard. I enjoyed this trip very much, and I like the Extension members more. They are amazingly excellent. The last trip as a MFWI student was awesome memories to me.

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...

My Unbelievable Southwest Trip

I experienced a lot of amazing things for seven days with my absolutely wonderful teachers and friends from October 15-21 and learned a lot of Southwest culture, history, and nature. For example, we went to about 12 museums and facilities, such as the Pueblo Cultural Center, the University of Mexico, and some churches in New Mexico and Arizona. Therefore, I kept busy on the trip, but it became something I have never experienced because everything I saw was new to me. There are three things that especially impressed me. First, I was attracted to the buildings of New Mexico. These were really different from Spokane, Boston, or Washington D.C. For example, I went to Old Town in Albuquerque. Then I noticed that almost all the buildings were made of adobe. Adobe means mud brick in Spanish, so the buildings I saw were brown and some parts were air blue. I felt comfortable there. I also saw a plaza and a church which were adobe style buildings. The plaza is the most central part in Old T...
