Changing My World

I had never gone to another country until last semester, so I was not good at talking with the people who I didn't know before I went to the U.S. However, I could change my mind and get new world in my mind. This experience is my treasure.

First of all, American are very friendly, outgoing, talkative, more so than Japanese people so I could talk with a lot of people who I didn't know around Spokane.  For example, a man began to talk with me during the flight from Seattle to Spokane. I was very confused and nervous because I was afraid of speaking English. However, he was very friendly, and asked me," Where are you from? Why are you going to Spokane?" I was surprised because I couldn't speak English fluently, but he listened to me very carefully without getting angry.  Also, this conversation was very exciting for me. Then, I began to think, “It is exciting to talk with people who I don't know”.  I want to say to him, “Thank you for changing me!".

Next, I could say my opinion during class because of American style education. In Japan, I had never said my opinion my self during class. Also, most Japanese don't want to speak up during class. However, Americans say their opinion voluntarily.  It looked easy, but it was very hard for me. However, I can gradually say my opinion without being called on by the teacher. It will become my confidence for job hunting.

In conclusion, America let me change into a new person. I want to keep finding new things in America so I hope this opportunity will be carried out successfully.

Unforgettable Southwest Trip

I went on a totally amazing Southwest trip with my classmates. The trip was my first time to go to the Southwest so everything was new to me. Sarah, Anikke and Bethany came with us. They made our trip more exciting. I’m happy I could go on this trip with them and I had a lot of great experiences. First, I really enjoyed New Mexico. It was chilly but not too cold. I went to the Old Town in  Albuquerque, New Mexico. I liked the Old Town because there are many cute things and good restaurants in there. For example, I found a gate that was decorated with a lot of red chili peppers. I had never seen anything like that before so I was very surprised and it looked like a lot of flowers from a distance. The red chili peppers were absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, I found a great restaurant. I forgot the name of the restaurant but they have really delicious Mexican food. They gave me some Mexican chips for free and recommended that I eat the chips with honey. I really like Mexican ...

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...
