Benefits of Portland Trip

Extension students had a Portland trip for four days. There was a lot of snow piling up. It was the first snow of the year for them. They had a lots of favorite places on this trip. If you go to this Portland trip, you can absolutely enjoy it! I would like to tell next Extension students about some benefits for a trip to Portland.

First, you can meet lots of students of Columbia Basin College and Portland English Language Academy. Fortunately, it was the first time for Extension students to go to PELA. You can have a partner and have opportunities to talk to them. Also, you can practice your presentation which you will have at the end of semester. For example, I had a partner who came from Vietnam. He gave me some advice. He said that nobody cares if I make a mistake. You should behave with a dignified attitude if you make a mistake and practice a lot until you have confidence. His advice made me strong. Thus, you will have a good time there.
Second, you can learn about Japanese-Americans because there were Uwajimaya where lots of Japanese things were sold and the Japanese-American Memorial. There were lots of Japanese snacks, side dishes, vegetables, noodles and daily necessities. Lots of Japanese people came there. I felt that they were successful as a business because there were four more Uwajimaya. On the other hand, I found some poems at the Japanese-American Memorial. One poem said that “War and change, my native land, once so hard to leave, is behind me now, forever”. I felt their anxious feeling from this poem because I thought they didn’t want to leave their homeland. Consequently, you will learn and feel something about Japanese-Americans.
Finally, you can buy everything with inexpensive prices because there is no tax on any of the products in Portland. You can enjoy shopping. For example, there was Sephora which had makeup product. A lipstick costs $28. However, in Japan, it costs $34. I thought it was a big deal. In fact, I could buy some brand-name goods which were cheaper than Japan has. You will be surprised at how inexpensive everything is.
As you can see, there are lots of benefits in Portland. You can feel and learn about American history and Japanese-Americans. You will absolutely have a wonderful trip.

Unforgettable Southwest Trip

I went on a totally amazing Southwest trip with my classmates. The trip was my first time to go to the Southwest so everything was new to me. Sarah, Anikke and Bethany came with us. They made our trip more exciting. I’m happy I could go on this trip with them and I had a lot of great experiences. First, I really enjoyed New Mexico. It was chilly but not too cold. I went to the Old Town in  Albuquerque, New Mexico. I liked the Old Town because there are many cute things and good restaurants in there. For example, I found a gate that was decorated with a lot of red chili peppers. I had never seen anything like that before so I was very surprised and it looked like a lot of flowers from a distance. The red chili peppers were absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, I found a great restaurant. I forgot the name of the restaurant but they have really delicious Mexican food. They gave me some Mexican chips for free and recommended that I eat the chips with honey. I really like Mexican ...

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...
