Our Extension students went to the Southwest on October 14 to 19. This trip had a little problem. At first for example, the first day we couldn't leave for the Southwest because of engine trouble of the airplane, and next day, our estimated time for departure greatly changed because of airplane problems again. I think we were a quite lucky because this is a kind of rare opportunity. I have three favorite places. These are Acoma High School, Black Barts restaurant and the Grand Canyon. I had never been to these places so I got a fresh impression from my favorite three places.
my great memories |
First, I enjoyed seeing and hearing traditional dances and songs at Acoma High School. The performance had power so it charmed me. When students dancing and singing, they were dressed in traditional clothes and wore turquoise. After that I asked one of the students about performance. She said “That dance expresses a gesture of extracting jewels. So they wore turquoise.” I felt this performance is really gorgeous, and students were wonderful because they protected their traditional things and they understand it mean. I can dance and sing Japanese traditional performances but only a little bit and I don’t know the meaning so I respected these students.
Secondly, we ate palatable diner at absolutely hilarious restaurant. It was called “Black Barts.” We could heard beautiful voices and piano music from waiters when we ate special dinner. They had a wide variety of performances, for example, classical music, Disney music and country music. It made me happy because I love live performances. One of waiters had a mustache. It was his real mustache. I was really surprising! It was like a false mustache because it was shaped liked an anchor. I want to go again to this restaurant with my family.
Finally, we enjoyed visiting the Grand Canyon for about two days. On the first day, we saw a heavenly the sunset. It was too beautiful to describe myself by using gestures. I was amazed because the sunset happened in an instant for me. After the sunset, the sky became dark. We went home on a pitch-black road. It was really dangerous because I couldn't see even 1 meter ahead. The next day we saw the sunrise. The weather was a little cloudy so we couldn't see the sunrise from horizon but I was satisfied. When the sunrise appeared from the gap of the cloud, I couldn't express in words the beauty of the scene. After that we had free time so my roommate and I made a plan to ramble in the Grand Canyon. We went to three museums so I learned many things. For instance, the Grand Canyon was not a canyon a long time ago. It was ocean. This information was the most interesting fact for me.
I learned amazingly wonderful things on this trip especially culture of Acoma pueblo and history of the Grand Canyon. This trip was absolutely fabulous so I’ll never forget these experiences.
