Sign Language

I leaned sign language during Linguistics class. SFCC students taught us. My partner was a woman who has two children and has divorced once. She has a nephew who is deaf, so she learned sign language. They can use sign language fluently. They taught some things such as numbers, alphabets, and how to introduce ourselves. First, numbers are very easy to understand because it is the same to count numbers. It is the easiest sign language because people know it shows numbers even Japanese. Second, they taught me an alphabet. It has some difficult parts such as “K” or “Z”. However, if I will remember these, I can understand easily. When we don’t know the sign language, they can spell it. It is same as usual, for example, when I don’t know the word, I will ask how to spell it. Therefore, we have to know alphabets of sign language. It will be helpful for us and a deaf. Finally, they taught us how to introduce ourselves such as “My name is…” and “I am from…” Also, they taught me some days of the week. It is very nice to know because it will need to introduce myself and days. I learned sign language for the first time. I think people who are not deaf, have to learn because it is the language of the deaf. They can understand our mouth, so they compromise to us. However, we have to compromise for them as much as we can. It was so nice to meet them and a good opportunity to know sign language.

Unforgettable Southwest Trip

I went on a totally amazing Southwest trip with my classmates. The trip was my first time to go to the Southwest so everything was new to me. Sarah, Anikke and Bethany came with us. They made our trip more exciting. I’m happy I could go on this trip with them and I had a lot of great experiences. First, I really enjoyed New Mexico. It was chilly but not too cold. I went to the Old Town in  Albuquerque, New Mexico. I liked the Old Town because there are many cute things and good restaurants in there. For example, I found a gate that was decorated with a lot of red chili peppers. I had never seen anything like that before so I was very surprised and it looked like a lot of flowers from a distance. The red chili peppers were absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, I found a great restaurant. I forgot the name of the restaurant but they have really delicious Mexican food. They gave me some Mexican chips for free and recommended that I eat the chips with honey. I really like Mexican ...

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...
