Astonishing Food Culture

I have eaten a lot of food last semester and this semester in the US. I have eaten not only food at commons but also food at restaurant and my host family's house, and snacks in my dormitory room. Also I have traveled some places in the US and it means I had a lot of chance to have various area's food in the US. From such experiences, I noticed some features about American food.

huge lunch!!
First, I am still upset about the amount of each serving. If I order small size ice cream at an ice cream shop, I'll receive medium or bigger size one. It applies not only ice cream but also to most foods. I already learned such things last semester, but I was in Japan this summer for three months, so now I was shocked about it again. Also in America, it is not rare to use a take out box if we can't eat all of the food in the restaurant. However, in Japan, it is unusual to use it. Japanese children are taught that they shouldn't leave anything on their plates by their mothers. Moreover, the amount of each serving is not too big and too small in Japan, so people don't leave food so orten. It is unhealthy to eat so much food because people feel sick or gain so much weight. Also, it is wasteful to receive so much serving if people leave serving and throw it it away.

Second, I was surprised there are many vegetarians. I know some vegetarians and there are two reasons why they are vegetarians. One reason is for their own health. Most American foods are high in calories with much more meat and fewer vegetables compared with Japanese food, so vegetarians try to keep their eating habits healthy. Another reason is because of their religion. One of my friends who is from Indonesia can't eat pork because he believes in Islam. In Japan there are few vegetarian. The reason is Most Japanese people don't care about religion, and also there are few vegetarian in Japan. Thus, there are differences between Japan and America about not only food but also eating habit.

amazing soup in New Mexico
Last, there are many different cusines from different countries of the world in the USA. I am enjoying eating different kind of ethnic food. I especially love eating tacos, a kind of  Mexican food. Also there are Chinese, Japanese, Italian and Brazilian restaurants. America is the new country, so cuisines from several countries are accepted as American food like spaghetti, pizza or tacos. It is very interesting and characteristic food culture in the world.

American food is individual and interesting. I want to know about it more and accept this new kind food culture.

Unforgettable Southwest Trip

I went on a totally amazing Southwest trip with my classmates. The trip was my first time to go to the Southwest so everything was new to me. Sarah, Anikke and Bethany came with us. They made our trip more exciting. I’m happy I could go on this trip with them and I had a lot of great experiences. First, I really enjoyed New Mexico. It was chilly but not too cold. I went to the Old Town in  Albuquerque, New Mexico. I liked the Old Town because there are many cute things and good restaurants in there. For example, I found a gate that was decorated with a lot of red chili peppers. I had never seen anything like that before so I was very surprised and it looked like a lot of flowers from a distance. The red chili peppers were absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, I found a great restaurant. I forgot the name of the restaurant but they have really delicious Mexican food. They gave me some Mexican chips for free and recommended that I eat the chips with honey. I really like Mexican ...

My Valuable Southwest Trip

Last week, we took a trip to the Southwest for 7 days. This trip was an absolutely wonderful memory. I had never been to these areas so I was stimulated by every things, for example, cactus, adobe style buildings, Native American culture and amazing dessert views. It is one of the most interesting trips I ever took, because I experienced some rare things like visiting Grand Canyon, visiting high school and so on. On this trip I could understand about Indian culture from a folk art museum. I would like to introduce some my best memories on this Southwest trip. My first best memory is Georgia O’Keef museum. Actually, before this trip, I was not familiar with her and didn’t know about any of her artworks, but I was looking forward to visiting here because I like art museums. Her artworks were very unique, abstract and absolutely fabulous, and these were very fresh to me. I especially liked bone’s paintings which one of the most famous her artwork, because the color contrast is very c...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...
