What I learned in LCD class

November 1st, we had a LCD class about social class. It was a difficult topic, but I thought deeply about it and I learned from people who have experienced more things than us.

First, almost all people said it is hard for the government to change today’s society. The wealth still keeps it high level and poor people still have increased, such as homeless and no job. I heard people who don’t have job and money in Spokane keep increasing, so the family also lives under a bridge or in their car. It is the big problem it might have continued. So, under the government, even if they don’t give any change for us, we can identify our subconscious and ourselves, and it is the most important for everyone to have empathy. If we don’t respond to the government, they don’t control us correctly and we can’t connect as one society.

Second, someone said you are “social class destroyer”, because if people can use two or three languages, they can get benefits from everything and social class goes down. I have never thought like that, but I found another reason to study a second or third language. If I don’t study some languages, my knowledge is only about inside Japan and I might be pro-Japan. Through the study, I learn diversity and get a lot of information about some good points and bad points in each country. If the country has some problems, we can think about that and interact with international people like this. I felt it is important to study foreign languages and culture, and then we tell about that to someone who can’t understand the international situation.

Third, actually, when the earth was born, people were equal. However, when people began agriculture, social border started to appear. I forgot at first people were equal. I wonder before today’s situation was formed, we couldn’t have stopped it or ease it or we had no choice. After the LCD class, I discussed it with my friends. The more we think about it, the more we thought a social class has a deep history. For example, we wondered that someone built each country is also kind of social class.

In conclusion, I wish both people who belong to upper class and lower class cooperated to make them equal society. It is the most difficult and it also becomes to kind of diversity. However, suddenly if a disaster happened, upper class people would lose everything and the position might be opposite or everyone might become to equal situation. We can’t predict what will happen in the future.

Unforgettable Southwest Trip

I went on a totally amazing Southwest trip with my classmates. The trip was my first time to go to the Southwest so everything was new to me. Sarah, Anikke and Bethany came with us. They made our trip more exciting. I’m happy I could go on this trip with them and I had a lot of great experiences. First, I really enjoyed New Mexico. It was chilly but not too cold. I went to the Old Town in  Albuquerque, New Mexico. I liked the Old Town because there are many cute things and good restaurants in there. For example, I found a gate that was decorated with a lot of red chili peppers. I had never seen anything like that before so I was very surprised and it looked like a lot of flowers from a distance. The red chili peppers were absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, I found a great restaurant. I forgot the name of the restaurant but they have really delicious Mexican food. They gave me some Mexican chips for free and recommended that I eat the chips with honey. I really like Mexican ...

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...
