We did it!!! We have finished all of our presentation about Japanese culture. On December 5th, 6th, and 7th, Our Extension students present their own presentation. They were absolutory amazing!!! I looked back at my own experience through the presentation and I find out three points what we did it.
First, I had opportunity to learn Japanese culture. My topic is Haiku which is the shortest poetry in the world. At first, I was not interested in Haiku, because I hate Japanese traditional literature. When I was in elementary school, I learned haiku, but it was just learning about traditional things such as traditional rules and about famous haiku writers. However, when I came back to here, I had opportunity to write haiku at the Moon Viewing Festival at MFWI in October. Moon Viewing Festival is a kind of community activity for MFWI students and Spokane people. I wrote Halloween haiku at that time. I also learn English haiku. I have never thought English haiku because I thought haiku is Japanese literature. Through the experiences, I realized I don’t understand what haiku is. Now, I understand history of haiku, techniques and strategies of haiku and also how haiku is related to Japanese daily life. Thought this presentation I realized Japan has a lot of fantastic history.
Second, I have wonderful Extension students who supported me. I knew they worked very hard. However, they care about their friends, because they knew each person worked very hard. We wrote research paper again and again. We practiced presentation at JCC 30 times a day. We researched own topic again and again. However, we did it, because they support me and I support them. I think we have 25 people in one group, if someone is missing we couldn’t do all of things.
Third, I have confidence by myself because I did wonderful success. At first, I think I can’t do it, because my English skill is not good, but though this semester, my English skill is improved and I became the presenter of Japanese literature, Haiku. How wonderful thing! I want to keep study hard when I go back to Japan.
Though these experiences, I realized I changed a lot. I think this program is first step of life and good opportunity to set the goal of my future. I realized I am really grad to come back to here and I did this program and I LOVE MFWI.
