Stunning Family and American Culture

Thanksgiving Day is a traditional event in the U.S. It is celebrated each year on the fourth Thursday of November. Fortunately, I had a wonderful time with my host father, Mike, my host mother, Leah and my host brother, Cameron on that day because of three experiences.
Mike and Delicious Food
First, I made traditional foods with Leah on Thanksgiving Day. One of the traditional foods is a big turkey. She bought about 12 pounds the turkey. It was so big and I was so surprised by the size of it. Moreover, we made beans, mashed potatoes, vegetables, pumpkin pie and sweet potatoes. Leah told me that American people made a lot of foods more than we need on Thanksgiving Day. Then after people ate foods, people go to bed to take a nap, so Thanksgiving Day is the day which people gain weight for American people. When I heard that I recalled New Year’s Day in Japan. On New Year’s Day in Japan, people made a lot of foods, so people spend precious time with their family. The holiday name is different between America and Japan, but I through Thanksgiving Day and New Year’s Day are really similar.
Next, Mike and Leah like dancing, also I like it too. Therefore, when I stayed at the host family’s house, we always play dance at my host family house. It is the TV game, so we can battle with some people. When I was a high school student, I belonged to dance team. Therefore, I can dance a little. I battled with Mike and Leah. The winner was Mike. He is a really good player, also he has many experiences to do that. I lost by him, but I really enjoyed dancing with Mike and Leah. It was a precious time for me.
Cameron with me
Finally, the last day of home stay, I talked with Leah in the living room. She taught me a lot of her experiences and she gave me advice for my life in the future. She had many experiences not only good things but also bad things. I couldn’t have imagined her bad experiences because she was always smiling. She said to me that taking action is really important in our life. Moreover, if we met difficulties, we should try. We should do everything   we want because of our life. I was so impressed by these words and also at the same time I was encouraged by them.

In conclusion, I spent a fabulous time with my wonderful host family, Mike, Leah and Cameron. This memory was added to my precious experience to learn American culture. Moreover, I really felt their kindness. I’m deeply grateful to my host family.

Unforgettable Southwest Trip

I went on a totally amazing Southwest trip with my classmates. The trip was my first time to go to the Southwest so everything was new to me. Sarah, Anikke and Bethany came with us. They made our trip more exciting. I’m happy I could go on this trip with them and I had a lot of great experiences. First, I really enjoyed New Mexico. It was chilly but not too cold. I went to the Old Town in  Albuquerque, New Mexico. I liked the Old Town because there are many cute things and good restaurants in there. For example, I found a gate that was decorated with a lot of red chili peppers. I had never seen anything like that before so I was very surprised and it looked like a lot of flowers from a distance. The red chili peppers were absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, I found a great restaurant. I forgot the name of the restaurant but they have really delicious Mexican food. They gave me some Mexican chips for free and recommended that I eat the chips with honey. I really like Mexican ...

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...
