In Conclusion

The Southwest Trip
The last day of our program is getting closer and I would like to look back upon my life in America. I have stayed in America for 8 months and my life and my personality have totally changed. I really like to learn English and this study abroad was one of my dreams since my childhood. I have lived in Small County and I thought I should have left to have a wider capacity to have global view which can accept cultural differences so I had decided to go to this Mukogawa Woman’s university since I was 16 years old at the time of a freshman at my high school for this MFWI program. During this extension program, I have learned lots of things which have changed my life. Although it’s very difficult to describe all of them, I would like to write my way of thinking about history, what I could learn from my presentation, and finally about my fate.

There were many traditional American events during this extension program. For example, I could have had Halloween and Thanksgiving Day. I was very impressed with people’s positive and their smile made me very happy. Especially, what I moved was South West trip. To tell the truth, I had no idea about Native American and the history of what was America. I have learned about that in American West class and I was shocked about the history and even now, the history have remained and influenced people today. By feeling and seeing at the first hand, I could understand how important learning history is because it could expand my global view and build my new perspective about people who lived at the time. As leaning history more, I think I would understand their feeling, how hard the time was. That’s why one of my plans after leaving here is to learn the history of Japan and the world.

Through my presentation, I could realize how I can make it for non- Japanese people because our conversation styles are totally different. For example, when I talk with Japanese, I put the important things that I want to tell on the end of sentences, but English is opposite. At first, I had used the Japanese style naturally so American seems difficult to understand what I want to tell. These differences look easy to find, but this strategy has changed my way of speaking. My presentation topic was Shinto and actually I couldn’t answer what Shinto is before. During the last semester, I was very impressed American hospitality and then I asked about it to them, they told me that the mind is come from teaching from our religion. I felt embarrassed that I couldn’t answer even this question, “What is Japanese religion?” That’s why I decided to give presentation of Shintoism to show my gratitude to people who have taught me many precious things and to answer the question to tell my country. As I researched about Shintoism, I was getting into the very interesting world of Shintoism and I could learn many things about Japanese, or myself. Through this presentation, I could find new aspect of Japanese and Japan. In addition, I could realize what Japanese value is. This way of thinking about religion would help understand the history and people who worship their own religion.

Even though my daily life here was very busy, I felt a lot of great kindness of people who have supported me and my family. I have read many articles about today’s depression and job shortage. Many people have been losing their job and it could change their lives in a bad way. However, my parents have worked hard for me and always cheered me up from the distance. They haven’t complained the situation and always give me very positive words. I couldn’t realize their great kindness and love in Japan so I would like to show my great gratitude to them by realizing my dream and leaning very hard. I really love my fate and this extension program taught me many valuable things to build my personality.

It’s very difficult to describe what I have learned here, but I’m sure this experience will make my future valuable and change myself. I really appreciate teachers, friends, and Spokane community which have accepted me. I will definitely utilize experiences which I have obtained here and from you to make people happy. Thank you so much!

Unforgettable Southwest Trip

I went on a totally amazing Southwest trip with my classmates. The trip was my first time to go to the Southwest so everything was new to me. Sarah, Anikke and Bethany came with us. They made our trip more exciting. I’m happy I could go on this trip with them and I had a lot of great experiences. First, I really enjoyed New Mexico. It was chilly but not too cold. I went to the Old Town in  Albuquerque, New Mexico. I liked the Old Town because there are many cute things and good restaurants in there. For example, I found a gate that was decorated with a lot of red chili peppers. I had never seen anything like that before so I was very surprised and it looked like a lot of flowers from a distance. The red chili peppers were absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, I found a great restaurant. I forgot the name of the restaurant but they have really delicious Mexican food. They gave me some Mexican chips for free and recommended that I eat the chips with honey. I really like Mexican ...

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...
