My Discovery in Portland

At Fabulous Reed Colledge
At the Portland trip, I could get many kinds of perspectives such as about the history, the environment, and the state social work at Portland. What I have learned through these topics would help me to expand my way of thinking about my life or environment which I am surrounded by.

First, about the history, I could learn about the history of different part of America through this trip. Although I have been to East coast and South West, I had no idea about the land which had colonized by France. I have studied French so I’m very curious about the relationship between America and France. At Portland, I saw many French words or restaurants. They show me history about that. The most impressed part of this trip in the history was about Dr. John McLaughlin. I was chosen a student who researched about him, but I actually had no idea about him. We visited his house and a guide told me about many things of his life. I was very impressed with his great personality even though he looks stern. He was born in upper class family in Canada and he was surrounded by very global situation. At that time, it seemed very difficult or strained to deal or have connection with other countries or Native American. It was possible to break out a war. However, he wasn’t afraid of that and very kind to others. He helped American pioneers by supplying and could succeed a deal with Native American by learning their language. I think he has very global view and I could learn from his about what are important personalities or makings to be a person who have global view.

Second, about an environment at Portland, I was very surprised to see the magnificent scale of the scenery. I had never seen such as the city which is surrounded by water resource. I could find the way of thinking about ecology such as window mills. I would say there was the coexistence between people’s life and nature.

Finally, about the social work at Portland, I wondered that how the Portland works without tax. Recently, the government has planned to raise the consumer tax by 5% to 10% in Japan. That’s why I had no idea about the system at Portland. However, Jill told me they have tax only for citizens at Portland. From that reason, I could understand why there are a lot of international students there. In my opinion, it’s very effective way and nice for gathering traveler and they can have benefit from people who came from other places. I could learn new work system at Portland.

Through this Portland trip, I could have many new ideas and different perspectives about learning. The information or what I learned at this trip would expand my way of thinking about my future. I would like to utilize these wonderful experiences to my life and expand my world.

My Valuable Southwest Trip

Last week, we took a trip to the Southwest for 7 days. This trip was an absolutely wonderful memory. I had never been to these areas so I was stimulated by every things, for example, cactus, adobe style buildings, Native American culture and amazing dessert views. It is one of the most interesting trips I ever took, because I experienced some rare things like visiting Grand Canyon, visiting high school and so on. On this trip I could understand about Indian culture from a folk art museum. I would like to introduce some my best memories on this Southwest trip. My first best memory is Georgia O’Keef museum. Actually, before this trip, I was not familiar with her and didn’t know about any of her artworks, but I was looking forward to visiting here because I like art museums. Her artworks were very unique, abstract and absolutely fabulous, and these were very fresh to me. I especially liked bone’s paintings which one of the most famous her artwork, because the color contrast is very c...

Unforgettable Southwest Trip

I went on a totally amazing Southwest trip with my classmates. The trip was my first time to go to the Southwest so everything was new to me. Sarah, Anikke and Bethany came with us. They made our trip more exciting. I’m happy I could go on this trip with them and I had a lot of great experiences. First, I really enjoyed New Mexico. It was chilly but not too cold. I went to the Old Town in  Albuquerque, New Mexico. I liked the Old Town because there are many cute things and good restaurants in there. For example, I found a gate that was decorated with a lot of red chili peppers. I had never seen anything like that before so I was very surprised and it looked like a lot of flowers from a distance. The red chili peppers were absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, I found a great restaurant. I forgot the name of the restaurant but they have really delicious Mexican food. They gave me some Mexican chips for free and recommended that I eat the chips with honey. I really like Mexican ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...
