I experienced culture changes between Japan and America three times during this year. I felt the honeymoon stage and also culture shock. At first, it was hard to adjust to a new life but I could reconsider both countries thanks to this. I want to talk about what I felt and thought through this wonderful experience.

First, I could learn both American culture and Japanese culture. I am interested in American culture and also Americans are eager to know Japanese culture. When I was in Japan, everyone didn't ask me about Japanese culture or history except for in class. However, when I came to America I was often asked about Japanese culture or history. And unfortunately, I found that I don't know much about them. It was a little shameful. Actually I like to study world history and foreign language, but before studying that I should have studied about Japan. So I could notice that I had to consider my own country.

Second, I could learn about the differences between the basic character in Japan and that in America. I think Japanese are negative in class and, to the contrary, Americans are positive in class. I could find that I have to be positive like Americans. On the other hand, I could find how Japanese are polite at service. Of course, Americans are good, too, but it seems to me Japanese service is more polite. Although it's cultural, I could notice that I am thankful to salesclerks.

Finally, I could find the importance of family. When I was in Japan, I sometimes couldn't understand how I was supported by my mother and every other member in my family. I thought I definitely had to show my gratitude to my dearest family by showing my independence.I could find that my family is important to relax, to support each other, and to be independent!

In conclusion, thanks to a wonderful studying abroad experience, I could notice many important things and reconsider many things which were easy to forget. I think I will be able to be more developed as a human by the end of December.

Unforgettable Southwest Trip

I went on a totally amazing Southwest trip with my classmates. The trip was my first time to go to the Southwest so everything was new to me. Sarah, Anikke and Bethany came with us. They made our trip more exciting. I’m happy I could go on this trip with them and I had a lot of great experiences. First, I really enjoyed New Mexico. It was chilly but not too cold. I went to the Old Town in  Albuquerque, New Mexico. I liked the Old Town because there are many cute things and good restaurants in there. For example, I found a gate that was decorated with a lot of red chili peppers. I had never seen anything like that before so I was very surprised and it looked like a lot of flowers from a distance. The red chili peppers were absolutely gorgeous. Not only that, I found a great restaurant. I forgot the name of the restaurant but they have really delicious Mexican food. They gave me some Mexican chips for free and recommended that I eat the chips with honey. I really like Mexican ...

Fabulous Southwest Trip

The Southwest trip was absolutely amazing because I leaned the culture of the area a lot. I spent 7 days in the southwest and I impressed by people who live there and by their culture. These things were totally different from Japan and the people there preserved their traditions carefully. I talk to a lot of Americans and I saw wonderful nature during the trip. There are three absolutely wonderfu and amazing places that I enjoyed.     First, I went to a lot of museums and all of them were very interesting. I especially liked The Museum of International Folk Art. The museum has more than 130,000 objects from more than 100 countries! My favorite object was a smiling skeleton doll. This object’s theme was Day of The Dead. When I saw it, I remembered COCO which is a Pixar movie. I also liked The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist and she painted a lot of flowers and nature. I think her paintings are brimming with kindness ...

Completely amazing trip

I had a good time visiting the Southwest USA with Extension students from 15 to 21, October. It was an education trip and I experienced new things and there was a lot of nature which is comfortable for me. I was looking forward to going on the Southwest trip for a long time. I have image that the Southwest is very hot but this place was cold than Spokane. It was interesting that the temperature was totally different in the same place. There were three emotions that I experienced on this trip. First, I was moved by the beautiful landscape of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely enormous. When I look down the cliff, I remembered the teacher's caution for us that there are lots of people who die and I scared. I and my roommate wanted to see the sunrise so we tried to got up at 4:00 a.m. and then we could see the sunrise which was really fabulous. After that, we decided to rent a  bicycle but we changed our mind and because we had lots of time. Surprisingly, we walked 10 miles aro...
