Changing Cultures

There are many differences between Japan and America. I experienced changing culture twice: when I came to Spokane for the first time and when I went back to Japan. Now I am facing a third changing of culture.

First, last semester all things were the first experience at that time. I was so excited to find new culture and customs in America. However, I was also shocked at the differences. For example, in Japan, when I cross a street which does not have a signal, I usually bow to a driver who stops for me. However, I did not know what I should do when I came across such a situation in America because there was no custom to give a bow in America. Nevertheless, the more I learned about culture in America, the more I got used to life here.

Second, I went back to Japan in May. I felt, “Here is my homeland!” At that time, I enjoyed finding differences between Japan and America. I felt a little strange in spite of it being my country. I was surprised at clothes which girls at my university wore because many girls wore similar clothes. Japanese tend to imitate other people’s taste, thinking and clothes. This said, I think the life-style in Japan is most comfortable for me.

Third, I have come to Spokane again. At this time, I have not had any culture shock. I have come back to another home. However, I still have not adapted to life in America. I am not used to eating habits because I sometimes have a stomachache or I become hungry soon after having a meal. My brain thinks that I am ready tostart living in America but my body still may not be prepared. In that way, I have experienced a third changing of culture.

It is rare a chance to experience changing culture. I think I already know about many things about life in America, but there must be things which I don’t know. I want to discover them during my study in Spokane.

Neccesary Shopping

I can do amazing shopping in the U.S. I don’t actually go shopping so often in Japan because I don’t want to spend money. However, I can’t help buying things here. One of the reasons I love the U.S. is shopping. I am so excited to go shopping here more than in Japan. A shopping in America is fantastic for three reasons. My Favorite Clothes of Holister First of all, there are many kinds of shops in Spokane. That means I have many choices to buy something. In Japan, I can’t buy easily things I want because Japan doesn’t have my favorite shops. In addition, I have to pay more in Japan than in America. If someone asks me my recommendation in America, I’d introduce incredible shops, such as Hollister , Bath and Body , Victoria’s Secret , and American Eagle , and Yankee. These shops are highly famous in the U.S, and I can't buy products of Hollister and Bath and body and Victoria’s Secret in Japan except online shopping. The other thing, I can visit other shops in Japan, but I’m s...

My Tremendous Portland Trip

Have you ever been to Portland? I could learn a lot of things in Portland. I like Portland so much. Especially, I enjoyed Portland English Language Academy, McLoughlin House and Powell's City of Books.      First, Portland English Language Academy was an enjoyable place for me. Before I entered the class, I was really nervous, because I can't keep talking with people whom I meet for the first time. However, this time was totally different. I had an activity of conversation to talk with every student. It made me comfortable. After that activity, I had a conversation about students' research such as selfie and future jobs. It was really interesting for me because I could hear various opinions about that. Then, the teacher recommended international students to talk about three favorite places in Portland. I learned more about Portland. Those activities were really helpful for me to talk with international students.   ...

My Precious Experience

The Awesome View at the Fair I have been having a good time since I came here. The teachers, RAs and staff at MFWI welcomed us warmly, so I was very happy and I am also happy now. My life at MFWI is little different from the last semester, but I'm really enjoying this life. Anyway, we went to  the Spokane Interstate Fair  on Tuesday, and I had wonderful experiences that I had never experienced before. The food was very appetizing. First, I was very hungry when we arrived there, so I ate a funnel cake, a big piece of chicken and some pizza. I had never eaten such a big cake and a piece of chicken, so I was excited and happy to eat them. They were very tasty, so I wanted to eat more food. Then, I noticed that a difference between America and Japan. Japanese festivals or fairs also have many branch stores and the food they serve...
