Changing Culture

It is useful to compare my culture to another culture to make my country better. It is also helpful for me to know my culture more deeply by changing cultures. Also, to change culture a few times has helped me to live in not only my country, but also in other countries more comfortably.

First, American culture surprised me. Americans were very friendly when I met them. In Japan, we don’t greet strangers even if they are foreigners, but in America many people say “Hello” or “Hi.” I noticed that greeting makes people happy, so Japanese people should imitate American people. I was surprised at these cultural differences, but to notice this good point in another culture is helpful to change myself or my culture.

Second, I noticed that the size of furniture and people in Japan isn’t usual for other countries. When I went back to Japan, my house looked like a house where a dwarf lived. Japanese furniture is smaller than American furniture because Japanese people are smaller than Americans. Japanese furniture is useful for Japanese people, but I got used to using American furniture, so it was difficult to use Japanese furniture until I got used to using it again. I didn’t notice Japanese furniture was small until I went to America and came back to Japan because it had been usual for me. I realized Japanese people and furniture are small.

Finally, it is easy for me to live both in America and in Japan. I learned cultural differences last semester. When I bought food for the first time in America, I didn’t know how to count money, so I couldn’t know whether change was correct or wrong. There are 1, 5, 10 and 25 cent coins in America, but there are 1, 5, 10, and 50 yen in Japan. The kinds of coins are different. Also, we can distinguish each coin by color and size in Japan, but 5 and 25 cent coins are similar in America. It made it hard for me to use money. I know how to now, so to learn culture deeply and to know differences from my country has helped me to live in other countries more comfortably.

I noticed that something that is usual for me and in my country isn’t usual in other countries. To live in two different countries is good for us to learn another culture. Also, we need to learn about culture to live in abroad.

Neccesary Shopping

I can do amazing shopping in the U.S. I don’t actually go shopping so often in Japan because I don’t want to spend money. However, I can’t help buying things here. One of the reasons I love the U.S. is shopping. I am so excited to go shopping here more than in Japan. A shopping in America is fantastic for three reasons. My Favorite Clothes of Holister First of all, there are many kinds of shops in Spokane. That means I have many choices to buy something. In Japan, I can’t buy easily things I want because Japan doesn’t have my favorite shops. In addition, I have to pay more in Japan than in America. If someone asks me my recommendation in America, I’d introduce incredible shops, such as Hollister , Bath and Body , Victoria’s Secret , and American Eagle , and Yankee. These shops are highly famous in the U.S, and I can't buy products of Hollister and Bath and body and Victoria’s Secret in Japan except online shopping. The other thing, I can visit other shops in Japan, but I’m s...

My Tremendous Portland Trip

Have you ever been to Portland? I could learn a lot of things in Portland. I like Portland so much. Especially, I enjoyed Portland English Language Academy, McLoughlin House and Powell's City of Books.      First, Portland English Language Academy was an enjoyable place for me. Before I entered the class, I was really nervous, because I can't keep talking with people whom I meet for the first time. However, this time was totally different. I had an activity of conversation to talk with every student. It made me comfortable. After that activity, I had a conversation about students' research such as selfie and future jobs. It was really interesting for me because I could hear various opinions about that. Then, the teacher recommended international students to talk about three favorite places in Portland. I learned more about Portland. Those activities were really helpful for me to talk with international students.   ...

My Precious Experience

The Awesome View at the Fair I have been having a good time since I came here. The teachers, RAs and staff at MFWI welcomed us warmly, so I was very happy and I am also happy now. My life at MFWI is little different from the last semester, but I'm really enjoying this life. Anyway, we went to  the Spokane Interstate Fair  on Tuesday, and I had wonderful experiences that I had never experienced before. The food was very appetizing. First, I was very hungry when we arrived there, so I ate a funnel cake, a big piece of chicken and some pizza. I had never eaten such a big cake and a piece of chicken, so I was excited and happy to eat them. They were very tasty, so I wanted to eat more food. Then, I noticed that a difference between America and Japan. Japanese festivals or fairs also have many branch stores and the food they serve...
