Japanese American Memorial

I cannot explain the feeling that I felt when I saw the poem. This is simpler then other poems, however, I think this poem is more deeply than other poems. I could guess the situation of this period’s Japanese-Americans. They did just usual things, such as go to school, though they were limited just because they were Japanese-Americans. I came up some questions when I saw the poem. “What is Japanese or American?” “What is the nationality?” and “What makes people as a Japanese or American?” When I see somebody who looks Asian face, I regard them as Japanese or Chinese. It’s too rude and sad, because I couldn’t find any answer to the questions, which I came up. I think Japanese-Americans were suffering from a lot of discriminations and stereotype. I can feel their strong will and at the same time, I think they persuaded they are American by themselves.

Sure, I go to school When I went to there, I think this poem is short but I can understand her feeling. Actually, I did not know about Japanese Americans and Their lives. Now we usually can go to school every day without discrimination so I thought we must appreciate it.

My Super Big Challenges!!

I went on the South West Trip from October 12 to 17 with my friends and teachers as a school trip. I really enjoyed the South West Trip, thanks to my friends, teachers and people who I met during trip. Anyway, I will talk about 3 my challenges on the trip. Grand Canyon My fast challenge was telling my opinion correctly. I told my opinion but I always could not tell my opinion "correctly". In the second day of the trip, I had complaints about the teacher's behaviors because I wanted to learn a lot of things in Santa Fe but they did not have information about Santa Fe. To be honest, I thought " It is a waste of time" so I told my complaints. I also tried to tell mt complain correctly. Then she moved for us so I was glad about I could tell my complaints correctly in English. I thought I must tell my complaints in the correct way, if I have complaints. Jump! My next challenge was talking with American as much as possible. I am always talking with teacher

When I saw this poem the first time, I felt the author's strong feelings. "Sure" is a very strong expression and shows very strong confidence.   I read Weedflower and I know many Japanese Americans couldn't go to school during World War Ⅱ . Sumiko was not sure why she can't go to school. So I could imagine a little bit how Japanese Americans thought about that. And I realized this author is not sure she can't go to school. But this author used “sure”, I thought why? And I think it is because suddenly they couldn’t go to school, and they thought, “Why I can’t go to the school? Why can white people can go to school? Why? I’m Japanese American. I’m an American citizen, same as they American”. I think that this author has a very strong mind, and this author felt discrimination. And this author knows Japanese Americans can’t go to school, but by using “sure” this author expresses a strong mind. And I think this author wanted to express looks strong to Ameri

I think a person really wanted to go home before this poem was made by this person. Finally, this person could do that. However, this person’s feeling was changed. This person might realize that they lost everything. For example, their house, money, food and so on. But, this person had a daughter. This person knew that he didn’t have to be panic or get angry. This person tried to hide his emotion. He didn’t want his daughter to know his emotion. He wanted his daughter to feel good. However, he held her hand very strongly. Because, he actually feel bad. It might include angry, panic, or worrying about everything. In the last sentence, he wrote he told her we were leaving without emotion. I think he tried to be calm. However, his body was very worried about everything, even if he didn’t have emotion. I realized that he really hide his emotion. But, the body couldn’t do that. Actually, his emotion and his body were not equal. As a result, Japanese American lost many things. In addit

When I saw this poem, I felt sad that how Japanese American discrimination. And how important that Mighty-Willamette. I think Willamette is name of river and how important this water for them life. But in other way I felt thanks for built this Japanese American Memorial. Because this is explain us how discrimination is awful. And "I am leaning I am practicing to say your name" I think, this part meaning is Japanese American hasn't to speak English skill. Anyway, I am really glad that I can visited Japanese American Memorial.

Japanese American Memorial

When I saw the poem, I imagined the scene that Japanese Americans suffered at camps. Some of them would come to America with hope. However, they were forced to leave their houses for camps and could not have done things that they really wanted. If they left the camp, it would be more dangerous than the camp. The way to live required staying at the camp. They should have stresses at the camp where many people lived and it was sweltering there. In addition, some children would have suffered from ultimate boredom, took care of their sibling, and had no parents like Sumiko’s life. They would also be anxious about when the war finished and when they could return their home. The poem reminded me again how wealthy my life is compared with those days and how terrible the war was.

I can imagine their exciting but anxious feelings from the poem. It is the poem which shows Japanese-Americans who are returning to their hometown from an internment camp. They were taking a car and seeing the view with nostalgia. Probably, there was no green in the camp. Also, maybe the land of the camp was like desert. I can know how excited they were when they saw so much green such as pine trees and mountains. They would feel relief to go back. On the other hand, I guess that they were worried about their new life. Most people may not have had their houses or their jobs. They didn`t know what would happen next. They must have had many feelings on the car. However, I think the biggest feeling was excitement. Finally, they were able to come back to their home town! All in All, the poem taught me about their exciting and anxious feeling through the window.

After the end of World War Ⅱ , Japanese-Americans were released from internment camps. They were plundered of too many things during the war. They lost all of their property, jobs and possibly family or friends. I imaged a single mother who lost her husband when I read this haiku. Her anger had already died and just felt sense of helplessness. However she had to live strongly to protect her daughter. She gripped her daughter’s hand to steel herself. I was impressed reading this haiku. It was a very tragic story, but maybe not a rare situation in those days. If I were in such a circumstance, I would lose my zest for living and choose death. I was worried about what had become of them since leaving camps. I prayed their souls may rest in peace.

Japanese American Memorial Poem

He/she had to leave all his/her things to move on. How hard it was. Of course, people cannot go back to the past, and it means they cannot take them back forever if they left their things once. How sad it was. I cannot imagine the difficult and hard lives they had but I can understand they did not want it. Where is “my native land”? Japan? America?  In my opinion, it is probably Japan. They might be in the situation that they had to leave their native country. I cannot believe it. Can I leave my native country? My answer is definitely “no” because it is my home. It is one of the most important parts of my life. At that time, they had no choice to lose their things. Is it okay to be forgiven? It is like they had no rights. Probably there were no rights. I can realize how wealthy my life is. How great the situation we are in. I really think war make nothing. I should be sad or mad if it makes something. We can learn many things from people who wen
